I played Mooris for a long time until someone told me that Efren plays a Sniper. Well, like everyone else who is mesmorized by whatever Efren does, I had a Sniper installed on my Jim Buss cue. Without a doubt, I will never change again. In fact, I played the Sniper for nearly three years until it was down to less than a dime in width and it still hit awesome, in fact, I believe they hit their best when they are down in width. I just sent off to Mueller's my two Buss shafts and two Madden shafts to have new Sniper tips installed. I have played them approximately fifty hours and have convinced myself that they do indeed play better at a lesser width than new width. Perhaps Crown City Corey would care to comment on new width vs taken down some?

Mike Davis has them put on with only 2-3 layers. Matter of preference.

Yes, rough sandpaper is the ticket. Just brushing the top of the tip from the center out - enough to raise the little hairs back up and you are good to go.

There is no other maintenance necessary with Sniper.

For me this is the rub on almost all non-Moori clones. They delaminate and I have never had a Moori do this. All the Snipers I tried failed. Now maybe I don't know what I'm doing but obviously dozens of Moori's did not mind.

The Snipers played ok but started slow and got harder and harder. The Moori's are more linear over their lifetime and even a child with a dull knife could trim one.

I've installed many cue tips over the last few years and Moori tips are the easiest tip to install, trim, and shape. When you work with a Sniper tip it's imperative that your cutting tools are SHARP. I've never had any problem with installing a Sniper tip, but I always sharpen my cutting tool before I start.

Cue tips are a personal preference and I don't want to say I don't like Moori tips in this thread I was just trying to pass on my experience using Moori tips and then switching to a Sniper on a 314-2 shaft. I prefer the Sniper tip for my cue.

I had a similar experience to yours - just last night!
Some similarities:

1. It was also a race-to-9 match (money game)

2. I, too, used a 314-2 shaft with the "new" Moori tip

3. I fell behind 4-0. I trailed as far back as 8-3!
And I fought back to tie at 8-8, too!

4. In the last rack, the 9-ball was on the spot. I missed on a "semi-straight" 8 ball - going towards the left corner pocket (head rail).

5. I lost, 9-8.

6. And i also miscued! Three times during the match.

I fell behind 5-0 right off and the pressure was on me to get into the match. I fought back hard and got the match to hill hill (8-8) with me breaking and the last game ended up with clusters and very hard to run out.

We went back and forth with me missing an easy shot which would have given me a good chance to win the match and when I missed I got a good roll and hooked my opponent. He made a great kick trying to hit the ball and he not only hit it, but he pocketed the ball and ran out to win the match 9-8.

I was not happy, but satisfied at how well I came back and I knew I could have won if I hadn't dogged the shot (I tried to hit it with high inside English off the end rail to keep the cue ball in the middle of the table and I under cut the ball). It was a simple shot with center or outside English, but with the pressure of the match riding on the shot and hitting it with inside I missed it and ended up losing the match.

I wasn't happy with the Moori tip on my cue since I mis-cued a couple of times during this pressure packed match - James

I too tried Sniper. Bought it when I was in Vegas for APA nationals, perhaps, even from you Corey. In an afternoon of playing it started to delaminate. The installer said it must be a bad tip. Tiger said it was the install and I got this long email explaining why they couldn't just send me another tip to try. What do I know I am just a dumb pool player. For the dollar or so in cost to send me a tip they could have kept a customer that they spent much time, effort and money in advertising to net. They really need to look at a comparison of how much money they are spending to get new customers versus how much it costs to keep a customer they have already earned. Just good business to take it on the chin once in a while to earn a customer for life. This is what good customer service does.

Oh, and if a sniper tip takes a special process to install then shouldn't a twenty dollar tip come with instructions to install? This would cost about .003 cents per tip. I really had no idea there was a special process to installing these tips until after it was on. Just my thoughts from a dumb pool players perspective.

Now this is a coincidence! I still think about the fairly easy shot I missed which would have won the match since the balls were laying very good, the good roll I got after I missed to hook my opponent, and then he kicked to hit the ball and it fell in and he ran out to win 9-8. It was an exciting match........

Because of this thread I'm gonna have to try the Sniper tip when my repair man runs out of Instroke tips.
 
After the game, I drove around town
with my thoughts on the shots that I missed
- one of which was the missed shot i described..

The first time i had a chance to play again, (2 days later),
Two days later, remembering where the balls where and all,
I practiced the shots that I missed.

And I kid you not!

What tip do you recommend for my Predator P3 & Z2 SHAFT?
I like much spin on the withe ball.

And where to buy? I buy from Norway(need to ship to Norway then :-).

You might want to try the Tiger Emerald. It's a medium-soft layered tip, but does not mushroom:

Like you, I tend to spin the cue ball. I was an Elkmaster tip fan through and through, and did not like layered tips, until I tried the Tiger Emerald. I was very impressed, and it's my new favorite tip now.

Unfortunately, I do not know where in Norway (locally) that you can purchase Tiger Emerald tips. Perhaps another reader can share this information?

Thanks for answer.

How can you compare this with Moori, sniper and other? This Tiger Emerald looks cheaper then Moori & sniper. This is good, then you can buy more :-)

But I will buy these & try them.

Perhaps buy a another Z2 shaft to test out.
 
i just gotta jump in here.....bought a predator 2 cue about one year ago...it had a lepro, didn't like it after a couple of months and changed to a moori medium (should call it a moori mushroom), changed to a kamui soft, it was better but not perfect. then someone here on the forum sent me a pm and suggested i use a sniper....changed to it a month and half ago....only shot with it for 2 days before i had to leave town. really think this is the permanent tip for me........no miscues, no mushrooming and spins the CB better than the kamui. but to each his own
 
I gave up on finding real moori mediums, so I went with a kamui black soft. The kamui wasnt for me, actually grabbed the cb too much. But I find the tiger everest to be right on the money. Comparable to, but maybe even better than an old moori med.

They are absolutely horrible on a 314, however. Not sure what it's like on a Z though. I'd go with a kamui black medium - maybe slightly less spin than a moori, but the hit is great. The hit of an everest on a 314 is like poking a jellyfish with a stick.
 
Moori soft is my tip of choice. I had a pool room owner suggest Kaumi soft, I thought whatever and tried it. I felt it was equal to the Moori soft, and to me that is a great compliment.

I might try a Sniper, but right now I am happy with either a Moori or Kaumi soft tip.
