Hey... just a note to players in the Houston area... According to an article I read in the newspaper(i think the local Kemah or Baytown paper)... Caspers did survive Hurricane Ike with minimal damage...

However I have no doubt that they will still be closed for awhile....

I guess Bogies is the only decent place in town now....besides Dr.Snooker...

My baize took up a little humity due to lack of A/C for 9 days. It was a little slower the first two days, but it's all back to normal now.

Hey DrSnooker.... what ballset are you using?? I have a set of super crystalate brand new that I do not like....

I guess you are allowed to threadcr@p your own.
But wow, really, why not? Which set do you like?
I do play with an aramith super crystalate set. I've played with tournament champion and seemed to get a lot more kicks with those so I got rid of them. I also have a set of general phenolics that I pull out for guests who've never shot before, so my cue ball doesn't get dinged up.
Anyway, yeah, I'll take them of your hands.

naw... i thought you might have a set of the Aramith Tournament Champion ones.... I just hate the way the blue looks.... yeah...too freaking light for me! cosmetic i know... and since the ATC ones are used on TV.... i'd like to have a set of those...but I don't feel like waiting for 3 months for them to be shipped to me.

are the SuperCrystalate supposed to the top of the line? I have heard it both ways.................

I like to have the best of the best when I am playing...even though I kinda suck at snooker... I sure as heck cant blame the equip...

hey... if you do have a set of fairly new ones I'd be happy to consider trading....

You really don't want the phenolic balls. They're not even weighed sets and the cheapest sets you can get. MNorwood actually took them home to practise on his pool table for a while. He shot the cue ball off the table at one point and hit a wall, now has a smudge on it. I think it'll come off with some polish though. But I'll know a deal when I see one... *grins*
I'll just pay you for the supers and you can take the phenolic balls. I'll have a spare set than either way.

I think the brown is too light too, but I don't care about the eastatics. The tournament champion sets came out after the super crystalate and they are more expensive. Most pro tournaments are played with them. Does that make them better? Who knows. I've played with both and the super crystalate feel better to me.

The only way to get better is to play so if you ever find yourself in SE Houston, let me know.

Nah... I think i'll keep mine then...............

I live in SE Houston....Near Ellington AFB... right off Highway 3 BTW...

oh yeah? thats cool.........I don't have room for anysize table at my place, so my home room is at FastEddies on the Gulfreeway @ Fuqua

I try to make good for a decent substitue of a snooker table using one of their 9ft Olhausens... I get lots of strange looks when they ask me what the h*ll I am playing. And even crazier ones when my dad and I play english billiards...

lol... the waitress said ... "ooh you have a pink one there!! how cute!"

it helps that a few of them are decent looking....:D
mnorwood here. I did launch that cue ball off the table. I will buy you another one if you want drsnooker. Within the next few years I plan to expand my game room to fit in a Riley. I am posting another thread about an idea a guy I know has in mind.

Just messing with ya mnorwood... With the crappy quality of those balls nobody's gonna notice, and I never play with them, but I could possibly have traded them for a nice set of supers! So it's all your fault *laughs*

Good luck with the game room!

Casper's Billiards is open and from what I was informed sustained very minimal damage in a location where unfortunately not everyone was as blessed. As a Texan in exile (meaning living elsewhere) :) my heart out to everyone who was effected by Hurricane Ike.

Casper's Billiards is located 137 21st Street in San Leon, Tx. their number is: 281-559-1400

Just a tip from my UK club experience, nothing annoys me more than being expected to play with a small white - they wear down much quicker than the rest for obvious reasons. If the balls aren't the same size and weight it ruins the game. You need spare white balls for your everyday set and rotate them to keep them all evenly sized. You can usually tell just by sight, but to be certain put two reds either side of the white and roll your cue like a straight edge over the top of all three. You'd be surprised how often the white ball stays put because it's smaller. Clubs that wont spend a tenner on a decent white go out of business.

I second that motion Doc. If you would make room for the second table we could have a tournament.
