Just wanted to share that when we opened our new room a while back , we purchased an old Steepleton Snooker table. We had a few guys that used to play it way back when and asked if we would get one and they would definately play on it.
Well , I would just like to say , this game is a blast! The players in my room love it , and after they have played it for a few months now , their 9 foot game has really stepped up. They are drilling the 9 footer like it was a bar box. Not to mention , they still pretty much live on the snooker table daily. Can't get enough of it. We are getting 3 to 7 man snooker games going and play for hours and are having a blast!
And yeah , the older players are still teaching us a thing or two bout true stroke , but what fun.
Just wanted to share this with you AZer's on how much I have seen my everyday players advance thru the great game of snooker. If you ever want a challenge and a great time in one game , SNOOKER my friends is awesome.
Thanx,
Jim

i've been meaning to give it a try. i never did before because i always thought that it made missing seem excusable. i mean it's a big table and missing more happens

great for more than stroke

The snooker table helps the stroke, aim, speed control, cue ball control, and also makes you much more aware of what spin or side helps a ball into the pocket and which makes it hang. The right speed and spin opens up those small pockets considerably.

Oh yeah, there is also that little benefit of heading out to the barboxes afterwards to gamble and the pockets look like #3 washtubs! :D :D :D

IMHO it's not so much the stroke, but the entire alignment mechanism, due to stricter stance, steadier and consistant head position, accurate bridge positioning etc that is very noticeable in anyone who dedicates some time to snooker.

Having returned to the game after a long break, having played US style pool for a few years, I am now forced to tighten everything up and stare a lot harder at the object ball's path to pocket to achieve the required line. Naturally this improves accuracy on many pots on a US pool table, a sure benefit, but there are other aspects of US pool which require specific adaptation.

That said, any good snooker player will quite rapidly become a shortstop level US pool player with a little practice at the game.
