I'll throw my .02 in
My take on production cues is depending on the price you want to spend and what you may like as far as model. I would say Viking, Jacoby, Joss, Schon.
I think vikings play pretty good, and start at just over $100! You can't beat em for $100-200.
Jacoby is one of my personal favorites. Mann they make a hell of a nice playing cue with great overall quality for real reasonable prices. I have a cocobolo plain jane, that I would absolutley NEVER sell. These are very inexpensive and well within your stated price range.
Joss is great as well, I have not checked recently, but my guess is that they start around $250-300 and go up from there.
Schon is probably considered by most to be the best production cue. They start at around $450-500 though, so you will not find a new one for $300 (if you do, let me know!!).
I have owned and played with all of the above brands of cues, and I do not think you would be disapointed with any of them.
I would ask to try out others cues and see which you prefer. Then just find a model that appeals to you that is in line with what you want to spend.
All of these are made right here in the USA, and are of very good quality.
Lucasi cues are a great value and play very good IMO. You can do very well on a deal for a lucasi with a case and a jump cue for $200-250 on ebay ( and maybe a dealer on here could do that as well). I got a nice setup for my girlfriend, and have used her cue when mine was not available. Made overseas, but quite a lot of bang for the buck.
