For all of you that were lucky enough to venture to Valley Forge, I was wondering which custom cuemakers seemed to steal the show this year at the Expo? Every year there is a maker or two who has everyone buzzing about their new designs. Who made the biggest splash at the show this year?

Andy Gilbert for me stood out the most for the guys who were set up.

For those who got a chance to see Mike Webb's new mitered veneers...that was the true buzz of the show. INCREDIBLE.

There were many cuemakers that caught my attention including Andy Gilbert, Ariel Carmeli, Samsara, and Mike Webb. However, my hat goes off to Kent Davis of KD Cues with his radially laminated forearms. With his technique, the level of detail seen in his woods are second to none, in my opinion. Aside from the high level of crafstmanship, they are real players too! Kent is a super nice guy who I plan on working with on a custom cue soon.

What are miltered veneers? Could you describe or post a picture maybe?

Maybe Mike will but the definition and pics would be be better suited for an actual cuemaker.

Everyone was talking about Andy last year as well. I would like to know what new designs he had this year. He is working on a loaded Titlist conversion cue for me and I am glad to hear he had a good showing. I'll call him this week and make sure he knows he was well received he was.

Aren't the majority of veneers mitered? What am I missing Koop? Appreciate any further insight.

Ron Haley

I was very impressed by the two Ron Haley's Joe Salazar was selling. One was sold by Thursday night, don't know how long the other lasted.

Jack and Toots Justis had some pretty awesome cases there!!

That Elephant leather one with the hand tooling was really calling me. The nicest case i have ever seen by far. The main thing that kept my hand off my wallet was.

It was just too valuable- It would probably last less than 2 weeks before someone stole it. In the mean time I could never relax with that on me- I d have to take it with to the bathroom etc.

Less of a factor, the elephant thing. Once he told me it was elephant, it just screamed out elephant. A great filet Mignon never seems to scream cow to me no matter how many i've seen had but with this case there was no disconnect. I know it's kinda dumb but hey it was hard to ignore and ill never own that case.

Omigod!!

You read my mind!!!

Wasn't that the nuts?!! Holy schlamoley, my eyes just locked onto that case, and I'm not a big fan of brown! But DANG!

Barbara~~~has a new Pro-Lite to hang around with...

Not sure about the majority, very well could be, but I know quite a bit are overlapped instead of mitered.

Hi Jigger:
Actually the industry offers overlapped, mitered and re cuts. All three have their own disciplines, all three look very nice when done properly. I would supply pictures of all three but my camera really sucks. I had one of each at Valley Forge but only the mitered got passed around. Only Mark Bear and a couple of others saw the re cuts.

Maybe this will help...

Crude drawing, but effective

Thanks a lot. That makes it crystal clear.

I guess i know to address my cues as re cut when someone asks.

Superstar, I'm curious who made your cue using recuts. Thanks.

Wanna know which cuemakers stood out? Here's my opinion.

If you had stopped by HighEndCues' booth, you would have seen some very, VERY impressive cues. There were some beautiful Mottey's there that I would love to get my hands on. As well, there was a segmented handle Mike Bender cue that was downright gorgeous!!! And though the storm prevented Dennis Searing from coming, he was able to send pics which Ken had playing in a slide show on his laptop. Two cues. Burl, silver, ebony, and... 8 pointers!!!! They were beautiful and I can't wait to see them in person.

I have never seen a man with radially laminated forearms, but I guess if it helps your pool game it's worth a try. :D

Ken did have a nice table full of cues and all that were begging to go home with each person passing by. The Bender spoke the loudest I do believe. But it was the quiet whisper that caught my ear from a Bumper-less Hoppe cue by Gus. That was a gem.

Everyone had something that was worth mentioning and I will have to mention the vast number of Southwest’s that Cueaddicts had (Sean - that Hoppe cue by Barry was begging to come home with me) and Cornerstone had some of the best looking Black Boars I have ever laid my eyes on (of course Mark saw them, we had to clean up the drool each time he came close).

Great show and the cuemakers had their best out there for all to see. Loved them all and wish I could buy a few more to add to my modest collection.
