Hey guys-

I'm trying to get geared up for TAR-Shane/Alex coming up soon.

Can anybody shortcut this for me. Do I need to get ATT Uverse or something else in order to upgrade to faster internet speeds?

I don't get it. Apparently I don't have it, and can't get it with my existing provider.

Anybody have/use DSLextreme for their internet provider? I have had them for 8-10 years. Mostly email. But live streams are choppy, buffering, pixelating, stopping-not a quality viewing experience.

With TAR, Accustats and others offering state of the art streams, I figure it's time to upgrade to a faster i/net connection. (current is a basic-768 kps download connection over ATT phone lines)(I don't know what any of this stuff means)

So-I go to the their website-click on 'see what subscriptions are availabe in your area'. It tells me I can get a 3000 kps download -so I order it. I get an Email from the provider saying order cancelled. It says only 1500kps download available.

I call them. Customer service says -no 3000 available to me. I say-why?, the website said OK. They say-I don't know why-just is. I talk to 'technical'-as to why I can't get the '3000' as the website tested for on my connection.
Technical says-'talk to sales'. I say-'sales is going to know why, but technical doesn't? Technical says 'Oh, OK-I'll check on it, please hold the line'

Five minutes later-technical support says-'You're too far away from the main office to get the '3000'-in fact you're too far away to get the '1500'-you're stuck with the '768'. I ask 'what main office-the phone company?' Technical says 'NO-the ISP corporate office."

I thought this would be simple. Apparently not. I would like to keep my ISP for continuity of Email-but I want a higher speed connection.

Any suggestions? The phone line to the house is 58 years old -could this be a factor??

what cable service providers are in your area? try to find out what speeds are available...it would be much faster. even verizon & sprint's 4G for cell phones is faster than your average home xDSL line
 
Yeah what RealLive said, Cable is where it is at unless you live in the middle of nowhere without cable lines.

A zipcode would be nice to have, if you want someone to help. ISP service area usually asks for your location.
If cable is offered in your area, this would be the desired choice of connection to the internet. Steams require a good chunk of local bandwidth to your computer. Also, a newer PC should speed up the buffering and quality of viewing experience. Almost TV clear and in some cases, HD 720 or better clear.

You should be able to keep your email address and access when changing your ISP. If not, just start emailing your contacts with the NEW email address after you change.

High speed cable and a new pc and a good monitor, willl make your streaming experience wonderful.

DSL - First cousin to dial up.

Check for cable or 4g availability in your area. With 4g there may be data limits.

Before you check cable, check out if you can get Verizon's FIOS...if you can get it. Absolutely phenomenal. 35MB up/ 35MB down.

I got the highest up/down i can get through Verizon and its not too bad considering where i live.

They keep telling me FIOS is available next month. :(
