*** Solution to "How do you play"... ***

Well, I couldn't stand it any more, I had to give it up!

Dennis, "Fiveandout" you were close, but wrong approach and technique.

Dennis has watched and played me several times over the past 35 years at "Chris's Billiards" in Chicago. So he has an idea of how I do things.

The example I’ve shown has a very simple solution, it is indeed a 5 cushion LONG “Natural”, off the left side of the yellow ball. However, the approach and technique for this shot is different!

Solution to Shot 1002.jpg

When playing on a NEW cloth, the shot is difficult to MISS, with the correct stroke, hit and follow-thru technique. On an older cloth you just have to adjust the speed to create the proper angle from the 2nd cushion to the 3rd.

As you can see from the diagram I’ve provided, allot has to do with the angle the cue ball attacks the 1st cushion to the 2nd cushion. The 2nd cushion is really the starting point for the calculation of this shot. Keeping that in mind, the SP for the Black line cue ball is 52 on the short cushion, even on a NEW cloth the best you can hope for with running English going into the opposite corner 5 cushions is maybe 35 on that same short cushion. By making your SP 60 on the 2nd cushion, the player can at least be assured of getting to 40-45 on the same short cushion.

Most of players that are 700-900 players will shoot the correct shot as shown, but with the Improper English, Hit and Technique, as shown by the Black cue ball lines!

The players in the world that are 1.00 and above that use different strokes, and techniques know the value of how to create angles the simplest way!

In the case of this example, the proper way to execute this shot is shown by the White cue ball lines and the object ball hit and English.

1. The object ball must be struck in a certain manner to achieve the correct angle from the 2nd cushion to the 3rd. NOT thin, but 20%-25% full.

2. The stroke must be a combination of Rapid and Short to help create the proper angle.

3. This is where I might lose some of you, when you approach the cue to apply English, AIM your TIP at the very CENTER of the cue ball on all your preliminary strokes. When you actually hit the cue ball use an up-stroke and contact the cue ball at EXTREME 12 O’clock English. By using this technique, the player doesn’t have to concern themselves about, how much reverse English, high, center or low on the cue ball.

4. I’ve been using this technique to create many OFF angle “Naturals”, 3 and 5 or more cushions for over 30 years with great success! You will be amazed at how the cue ball will lengthen without any reverse English!

I hope this technique wil be helpful to the viewers who will actually go to table and give it a test!

question?

Bill, Do you have the colors mixed on the balls in the diagram? I am a little confused. Great shot by the way!!!!
Thanks, Dan

Thanks for sharing.

Tried it on a verhooven table , not a difficult shot with this solution, I like the technique , George Ashby showed me the UP STROKE 4 years ago in a clinic at Grand rapid ( Steve Anderson's club) . I never thought about it in this way,
Thanks Bill for sharing , Things are getting to click very soon .

For Viewers who dosen't know George Ashby, He is Multi USA National Champion and has a great Sense of Humor!

Francisco Parra showed me a way to create an upstroke shot. Aim not so high but through the stroke move your stick towards the ceiling and end up almost pointing your stick up (not all the way up) . Looks like you are "showing off" but it works.

Bill,
As a novice player could you show the solution using the white line only. Cue ball is white? and are you hitting the yellow on the right side or left
Thanks
Dean
