Some Fancy Southwest cues

jimbo,

if someone sells and trades cues to make money so they can 1st, have more cues pass through their hands so they can buy at better prices, and 2nd, make money to support their cue purchasing habit, doesnt that make them BOTH a dealer and a collector?

that's smart guy if you ask me.

Is *he* buying what he likes or what he thinks he can make a profit on??
When he buys it does he come here and list it for sale or does he play with it and enjoy it?
Chris I'm only asking since your asking me questions, it's not up to me to put a lable on anyone I'm just busting Ken's balls (I think he knew it)

I don't care at all, I thought I went over it already (I was bustin Ken's nuts) but since you asked I should make up an answer like.
It's better then just posting the normal "Nice Cue" or "I'm drooling on my screen" or the infamous "I bet it hits a ton" LOL The same ole stuff bores some of us, so we open it up to different topics and I stir up some differing opinions, it's fun Sean, I'm sure you agree however much you'd hate to admit it. Now if you want I'll go all Bruce D on your ass and I'll start up a new thread.

Post pics of you're Burl cues ! :-O

Yup. Both a collector and a dealer. I think it's legitimate. Only the person can say for sure whether certain cues are collection, and which other cues are to deal.

that's smart guy if you ask me.
It can be, as we all need a way to feed the addiction.

One problem is (and this has nothing to do with anything anyone's said on this thread) the old "I wish I never sold that cue," syndrome, or "this offer is to good to pass up," syndrome. Some cues will go over the gray line of collection to become a sale item.

OTOH, I'm neither a dealer or a collector, and I've had that "I wish I never sold that cue," syndrome. Never had the "offer is too good," syndrome. LOL!!!

I guess this just leaves you being the only collector on AZ... Ken

I hate lables, and I don't recall ever claiming to collect cues, as far as AZ goes I'm not sure who collects or who claims to be a collector. What constitutes a collection?

Having one cherished cue perhaps doesn't qualify as a collection, but in my book, the owner sure can qualify as a collector.

I receive e-mails all the time from people who have one old cue they cherish. They want to know more about it, and it's approximatele value, but I can tell they will own it the rest of their lives.

Having a collection is a physical thing whereas being a collector is a state of mind.

I couldn't agree with the last line more, and having talked to Chris in private I know where he's coming from. People who collect things often times collect other things or have been collectors for life. Comic books or sports cards when they are younger, guns or watches when they get older, it's just a state of mind kind of thing. Many people I know who collect things even get ill when they lose or sell something, the joy of adding to the collection is a euphoria. I don't feel having 1 cue is a collection and I often wonder why people ask the price of something if they really don't intend to sell it.

Jim

Well that settles it; I'm a collector in respect to Jimbo's getting ill when you sell, trade or even ding a cue requirement.

Here are some pictures of cues that have been in my collection.. They are some beautiful examples of Jerry Franklins talent. The 6ptr is a newer cue...
I have recently found a new home for these beauties...They are NOT for sale.

Fred, nice insights. I feel that someone can be both a dealer and collector. With a few exceptions, most dealers are/were collectors.

I can totally relate to your latter comments, too. Have had a lot of those "wish I'd never sold that cue" deals and a few of the "offer is too good..." deals, but you really know you've got it bad when they both happen simultaneously.

Cue freaks are special people...that's for sure !!

Hey Guys,
This turned out into an interesting topic.... Lots of good points... I've been doing this a long time and have been called worse then a dealer..
Jim might be a Big Bald headed Sh-t talker.. But I've known him a long time, and he's a good guy who knows cues..
I'm going to bring some of the private not for sale "Collection" cues to the ICCS show...
Sorry Jim, I used the Collection word again..oops..LOL
