Someday I Want To Do This...

Eric,

That is a great idea, something people would stop by to see, like 'Hey, what's going on here?' in their minds... casinos are places where people with serious cash hang out, that's a more understanding community for expensive things than you find at other places, maybe they'd appreciate... if every 50th guy stops by it still counts up to hundreds or even more who see these cues...

Anyhow, if you want me to share any of your cues here or just a selection of them, just tell me which ones, you know that I'll find them... just let me know.

David

Eric -

I think that you should ship me all your cues. Then I will display them and setup a webcam for people to look at them 24/7

eric, trust me when I tell you that if can take pictures and post them, you could probably learn real quick how to make mine look like crap. They dont come anymore computer, camera, cell phone inept than me.

I also think that would be a great idea for a display, but you would have to worry about temperature and humidity.

Happy holidays and a happy new year to you, and everyone

Ditto, and it may be very difficult to find "very secure" display cases, and some insurance protection. The proper temp and humidity conditions are of great concern for the ivory, snakewood, etc. possible damage considerations, which myself, Bill Grassley, Richard Black, Dan Dishaw, and others experienced in the 2006 SBE at Valley Forge. Paul Del Giudice.

If this isn't feasible, it would be great to see a large coffee table picture book of several cue collections. The books on the market have some good pictures (like the blue book and Billiards Encyclopedia) but the number of cues shown in color are limited and many of the pictures are small. I have been collecting cue pictures off the Internet to a cue pictures file but it's not the same as having hard copies and there are so many high end cues that we don't even get to see pictures of. I'd love to be able to have a large collection myself but the physical needs of my family (my son is quadraplegic) and the finances we need to hold it all together don't allow it.

In person is the ultimate but a book like this would be great.
The costs involved and the market for them might make it prohibitive and may be the reason it hasn't been done but I know I'd buy 2 or 3 copies.

Does anyone know of such a book or a web site set up for this purpose. I'd love to know about it if there is. Sorry for deviating from the main tread a bit but I'd love to know. The pictures here in the cue gallery are great but you have to wade through a lot of threads to see the pictures.

I was thinking I have all my cues in a gun safe and they are getting older, I do take them out and play with most of them from time to time, but for the most part they never are seen by anyone. Tikkler posts pics of his cues and alot of us here enjoy them for sure. I cant take pics and I dont know how to post pics anyways.:sorry:

So what I thought would be cool to have some very secure display cases built and put some of my cues on display in a casino for example, with a plack under the butt explaining who made the cue, what it cost new-current value, how many were made. Not just the big cues but cues from D series McDermotts up to monster Gus cues. I would leave my name off the display, i'm not doing this for publicity, but to show people that pool is for real and cues are more than ramin wood things from K-Mart.

I think I could get a display like that into casino's, musumesies and other places(im to sleepy to think of other kinds of places) but spots where there is no direct sunlight. And have other printed boards talking about how long it takes to properly make a cue, list the HOF cue makers names, just like any disply at a museium would have. Airports have that sort of thing as well. probably display 20-25 cues is all, if it worked they wouldnt have to be just mine, at least we would be showing people out there that pool is for real and cues are a sub culture of pool. this is whats missing-little things like this could help pool. will it fix pool? never, but it cant harm it either.

I believe cue collecxting is in its infancy and with ideas like yours it can take the collectability to a whole new era! Merry christmas buddy
