Someone needs to write a book on pool with a title something like,
"POOL"
"America's Lost Sport".

Go back about 100 years and put a few pages each on the hero's, of each era. Tell how well people new the players names back in the day. How they played at the best hotels in the biggest cities. Tell about the crowds that came to watch, all dressed in their Sunday best. If the book was a hit in sports it might give pool a little jolt. Just a thought. Johnnyt

Johnny,
I would love to read a book of this nature. Unfortunately I doubt you would see any kind of "jolt" in the popularity of pool. People in our society simply don't read books like they used to. It's amazing the look you get from some people when you say "I just finished this great book you should read." You'd think that you just asked them to run a marathon or something. Its a shame to see more and more peoples interests move away from books and to the internet and blogs. I still would love to see someone write such a book, even if it was just me who read it. Why not you, get started on it brother, lol.

Nah, my writing days are over. I have one last book that I'll publish just before I die or my daughter will publish it after I die. Johnnyt

Whats it about? I'm planning on starting a book here shortly, going to use it as my Ph.D thesis and then hopefully get it published. The topic i'm doing it on will make the research an absolute blast and will give me the opportunity to do alot of traveling.

Maybe it should be titled "Pool, America's Second Lost Cue Sport". Billiards was America's first lost cue sport. I coincidentally was thinking during my run this morning (all kinds of random thoughts while running) that billiards was once huge, then faded from America in favor of pool. I'm thinking because billiards is much harder. I was also thinking maybe pool is fading because even it is too hard for today's undisciplined generations.
Steve. <== Old and reasonably disciplined.

I'm Still Counting.........dammit !

I'm thinking of writing a book titled, "Wasted Youth, Plus 50 Years."

Doug
(the title is a work in progress) :)

*Alternate title: "How To Dog Off 60 Years"

I remember this song they used to play over and over and over on the jukebox by Freddy Fender called "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights." :D

Do you think Freddy was wasted when he was singing this? :o

Hey Johnnyt and JCIN, why don't you two partner-up and do a book and video documentary about the subject?

How about writting a book about life as a Pool/Billiard room owner
"Life Inside a Pool Room"

Yeah, you could do something along the lines of Winning One Pocket with a bunch of room owners telling their best & worst pool room stories.

a book AND a series

Actually, a History of Pool/Billiards/Cue Sports would be great. Or at least the "modern" era of the sport. It's tough being new to the sport and trying to learn the history of who's who and then you get the old dogs giving you crap when they reference a classic player and you don't know who they're talking about. :embarrassed2: LOL!

And with the influx of reality based TV series, why not one chronicling the life of a road/tournament player or the daily activities of a pool hall.

Ahh...but alas, who would watch the series or read the book. Anybody interested is either on the road, in a tournament, in a pool hall, or on a forum somewhere.

Good day to all, I'm off to explore more stuff on the forum, search Wikipedia for some history lessons in pool, then take a nap before I head to the pool hall for the evening.
