NewStroke

Over the last several days (I am probably jinxing myself) but I am actually seeing imaginary lines to make the ball, I am seeing the path the cue ball should take after I hit the ball, I am not thinking about my stroke, and I am just executing the shot. Of course I am missing, but missing alot less and the cueball is positioning itself really well.

If I can keep this mindframe, I am seeing lots of good improvement coming my way.

Sorry to brag, but it feels really good to "know" what you are going to do.

I very much agree with you. My game jumped when I started to visualize (see) these lines. Seems I have to keep at it with a very intentional mind set to see the lines and see the OB and the cue ball travel in my mind. I also found that if I tell myself the exact position (pointing or looking at it) and then forget everything but the shot that I more often than not amaze my self with how close I get to the desired position.

An interesting side note has to do with feeling uncomfortable with the desired position and then finding that my subconscious took a different route or applied a different amount of spin / power. Seems I have learned that if I concentrate on the shot and let “him” concentrate on the position things work out pretty well.

Of course I am not really doing that, but you get the idea.

huh? one of my friends told me the same thing a while back i just thought he was nuts good luck to you and maybe one day ill see the lines lol

You've just been drinking to much NewStroke. Give it a couple of days and those lines will go away all on their own.

You are right about being comfortable. I am feeling very comfortable with my shots and their accuracy.

When I was playing all the time (between 10-15 years ago), I had a similar thing happen, but it had to do with aiming. The spot I was aiming at on the OB would sort of glow as I continued to stare at it.

I told someone about this & they gave me the "look" so I kept to myself from then on. Same goes for darts...the bullseye would grow in size until it felt like I was dropping a pebble into the ocean. My stare was that intense then.

Then I stopped playing regularly & got old, none of this happens now.

It has taken me awhile to come up with a way to articulate what I mean by visualizing and the difference between focus and concentration. I think these are real issues that I have not seen discussed elsewhere.

I think that I fall into the "shoot by feel" aiming discussions but I think that shooting by feel begins with learning to aim the centers of the balls accurately and then letting the brain compensate as needed. It (the brain) may not be able to articulate the math but it uses an intuitive physics to arrive at the right stroke.

The use of intuitive physics begins with seeing the shots and visualizing the movement of the balls.

Absolutely - shot visualization is the key to accuracy. You can see the shot standing up too, english and all, then just get down on that line and shoot it.

NewStroke:

If you keep this up, you'll start to see Nazca lines in your shot patterns:

Then, the *REAL* magic will begin! :D

BTW for those who think this might be a crazy discussion consider this. Did you ever imagine that you were someone else and then pretend to be that person? No – how about when you were a boy? I always got to be the cowboy and my little brother was the Indian tied to the tree. Remember something like that. And we all had the ability to really be that person didn’t we?

Ever play an air guitar, or air drums with no sticks? Ever pretend that you were a race car driver when behind the wheel of your car (oops that was as an adult). See you already know how to visualize and pretend. You are able to see things that are not there. Not only is it fun, solid research has lead to the conclusion that it will improve your game if you practice it away from the table. Imagine what it can do for you at the table.

Well I am not a little boy you say -- Uh Huh the difference between a man and a boy ...

Here is one that will blow your mind

And here is a professional group talking about it

Sounds like you have "Crossed over"!!!...SPF=randyg

I was lucky enough to discover this at a very early age.

Then I took several years off and lost it.

I've got it back now and I'm not about to let it go. It's a great feeling playing with all the confidence in the world.

Now, we all understand why some of us have really good driving records and others can't seem to figure out the lines in the road are meant to drive BETWEEN, not to use for aiming. :D ;) :D

I also use those invisible lines and focus points that give me a natural edge, but for some reason, I have a good driving record, too.

See what you know, and know what you see, and the force will be with you master newstroke.

........................................

Of course I am not really doing that, but you get the idea.

Believe..... Trust the force master JoeW, and fail you it will not.

What you have discovered..... IS "the secret".... :) Use it only for 'good'. :)
