Something else than a Z2 shaft

I've been playing with a Z2 shaft for more than a year now and I'm getting more and more annoyed by it .
When I play with my original josey shaft I can feel the hit very well and with my Z2 the hit feels dead , and the moments you're struggling at the table this Z2 haft doesn't help you at all .
Now there is one big problem , I can't get used to the deflection of the josey shaft and I really tried playing with it .
What other very LD shaft is out there for replacing the Z2 shaft ?
Are there cue makers who make very LD shafts or do I have to look at Mezz , OB , .... ?

Thanks in advance for helping me out .

I like the Tiger Ultra shaft. The tip was good for about a month then went dead on me and I had it replaced.

Try Mezz HPII. Its very hard LD shaft.

Many cuemakers can make you a LD shaft, too but the result isn't guaranteed imho.

the z2 is one of the lowest deflection shafts out there. the ob-2 is the only thing i've ever come across that can equal it. the ob-2 hits soft though. if you want a harder hit, try the ob classic pro or the mezz wd700 or mezz hybrid pro 2. those will have more deflection than your z2, but they're still pretty low, so should be easy to adjust. beware there's lots of low deflection claims out there, but few shafts really perform to a high level.

I would heed McChen advice. True connoisseur of aftermarket ld shafts.
I personally am a fan of the classic pro.

check out the OB shafts. Isn't the Z2 an 11.75mm tip? Then the OB2 would be good for you... Anyway, go look at their shafts!

If you get a chance to talk with Royce (or even better, tour the facility), you will gain a lot of confidence in the engineering of your new OB shaft. Due to their construction and consistency, there is no comparison between OB shafts and ANY other shaft.

i probably rank a little above banger, but i shoot exclusively with OB shafts.

i have noticed the same with my stock jacoby shaft and the 314-1. there is a noticeable difference when hitting the cueball. the 314-1 deadens the hit while the jacoby gives more feedback. the predators low deflection comes from reducing the weight so they hollowed out the front of the predator shafts and fill with foam or similar material, the glue does not vibrate like the wood would and that is why it feels dead.

i would like to mention another ld shaft you may like, sweet spot 360 (ss-360), i have not tried it yet but i do have one in the making. here is his website:

and they are not as exspensive as the others mentioned.

Does anybody know the weight of an OB classic pro shaft ?
I think this is the shaft I'm going to buy to replace my Z2 .

Shaft

I went and got an OB Classic Pro 30" shaft and put one of Tom Hays Hard Tips on it, LOVE IT! It's a little different than the Predator, took a little to get used to it but then so did the Predator...I will probably putting some Z2's on fleabay in the future.....

Same problem

I have exactly the same problem. Tried an OB Classic pro and that´s where I´m going right now. As soon as I robb a bank I´ll be getting the OB-2 and the Classic Pro.:grin-square:

Those with a brass insert usually run 3.8 or 3.9 ounces. Those without an insert are just slightly less.

Sounds about right.

I have two without brass insert and they both weigh 3.7 oz.

P.S. I really like them over the Z2.

If you don't like the hit of the Z2 and want something similar I agree with what everyone else said and grab an OB-2. I don't play with one but a good friend uses the original OB-2 and I can say that shaft is pretty damn good. Only thing I don't like about it is for some reason the shaft itself feels a little light but besides that the tip size feels incredible. It's supposed to be 11.75mm, and it is, but for some reason it feels better than a Z2 in a closed bridge. Probably due to the taper but I don't know.

I narrowed it down to these 4 shafts :

SS360 ( Bob Danielson ) , in a few days i will be testing this shaft so i'm very curious about it .

If this isn't my thing it will be one of these 3 ,

314-2
OB classic
MEZZ hybrid pro II

i only tested the 314-2 and it plays better than the Z2 for sure .
If you look at deflection wich of these 3 shafts has the lowest deflection ?

regarding the reviews i read on a germand forum the mezz shaft is the stiffest and has very low deflection.

the ob classic with 11.75mm is barely played here but the 12.75mm seems to have more deflection than the mezz.

what you couldnt like with the hybrid pro II is the sound. hard to describe.

Tiger X-Pro

Might wanna consider Tiger X-Pro. I have tried them all and this one stands out, especially with Tom Hay's hard tip, the hit is like no other. JMHO
Now they got me thinking to try Danielson SS360.
