Something that has always bugged me!

wood

It's about the wood. It's about beautiful wood. If the wrap is not prettier than the wood..... you don't need it.

Kim,

On this one I can't disagree with the wood beauty thing but wraps are a thing of beauty to themselves as well. They also serve a use of functionality as a grip choice to the player. Many players will not play without a wrap.

It took me many years to get to the point I am at and the first thing I look at is the wrap details when I view someone's work. To do a wrap correctly it must have a perfect step groove, perfectly rendered linen or leather, no injuries to the finish on the ends, perfect pressing & burnishing, and then the secrete seal process. Yea everyone does it different.

Darrin Hill taught me how to do my leather and he has been an expert for years. The other night he told me that he just finished a wrap the took him 4 hours to complete because he did it 3 times. Darrin will reject his own work if it is not perfect. I agree with that notion.

A wrap gives me a thumbnail impression of the skills of a cue maker and when I do a perfect wrap, I feel a much higher sense of pride than the wood alone that I used. Let's face it my craftsmanship had nothing to do with it growing.

That's very true that a cue with a wrap can be equally beautiful as wrapless and it does show great talent when a wrap is put on and its hard to find the seam. There are some great cues that use linen and look real good, specially on Tads cues but I see alot on az that the linen seems to take away from the cue than add to it.As far as playability, use whats good for you,i'm just speaking on look wise.To clear up past comments and to be clear, the pool players that I know in my area don't care for linen but to each there own:smile:

Hi,

I love making cues with the soft currly handles (red maple from the high canape of the trees) from Oregon on the core with the real deep figure. it's a lot easier than putting on a wrap.

I figure an extra hour in my production time to put on a wrap because it is time consuming.

Wrap less cues are more of a modern look and I like it a lot but I still prefer "old school" in my cues so I don't go crazy making wrapless.

This is the second one you quoted which is wrong.I can't beat a dead horse but anyone that reads my original comment agrees with me 100% no matter what my typing skills are like

The first was a quotation, the second an explaination.

Contrary to popular opinion, quotations and explainations are
not the same thing.

Wow.

Have you heard the one about being in a hole and stopping digging?

FWIW - I personally consider forum posts to be the equivalent of casual
conversation. Spelling, punctuation, even grammar, being lax has never
been a problem for me.

Content and meaning, not so much.
Your original post was a diatribe against Irish linen wraps - overstated
and overrated, as it was, I don't think it was too much of a stretch
to interpret the meaning of your statement to have been what the words
actually said, rather than what you were thinking.

But, maybe that's just me...

I respect your opinion and understand what your saying.I tryed with a
few posts to say what I meant but felt I was still getting flack from you
even after I explained myself. My original post was to find out what cuemakers thought about linen wrap, not to get into a dispute whether
what I said was about players I know or don't know. The question was harmless and everyone else that has given their opinion hasn't made an issue of anything except you.No big deal you have the right to say what you think. Thanks for your input:smile:
