Is there a product that can keep a new white shaft clean? I dont want to clean it all the time with a magic eraser because eventually itll make it smaller. Just wondering what i could do to keep it clean or if its possible. I never worried about it in the past and it doesnt really matter just thought id see if it were possible.

are you burnishing the shaft after using the magic eraser? what are you using to wet the magic eraser? I use isopropyl and burnish afterwards, shaft stays clean for months. I don't think a magic eraser is going to thin a shaft, btw.

Yeah i do burnish it with leather. Somehow it still seems to hold chalk. Maybe it isnt smooth enuff or i didnt burnish it enough i guess if you say yours stays clean for a while.
I thought i heard of something mike gulyassey came up with that worked but im not sure what it was. Ill try burnshin the shaft more i suppose and see if it stays clean longer.

All of the suggestions so far are good for cleaning but do little for the problem. Take the cue to a competent repairman and have him clean, seal and wax the shaft properly and it will stay clean with simply wiping down after play.

I do the alcohol and magic eraser but I burnish with wax paper. Seems alright although my eyes are getting burnt up from welding so everything looks bluish to me lol

Why do you say the Magic Eraser will make your shaft smaller?

If your shaft is new and clean, search for "shaft freeze". Ok, I don't know this product from my own experience, but I have read throughout good things about this stuff.

It just seems like its kind of abrasive, very little but i thought if maybe you did it everytime the shaft got blue itd wear it down eventually.

shaft

clean the shaft with denatured alcohol
seal with shellac and denatured alcohol 5 or 6 coats
wax with carnauba wax.

the shellac and wax keep the grit out grain .

if you shoot 8 hrs a day then clean and seal and wax once a week.

I bought some Sil Clean, dry powder form and some Q wax from the fellows from Muellers at the BCA show, I used it on an older sneaky and it came out ok, nothing great but ok.
Is the denatured alcohol better to use and is this wax all right ?

Q wax

Yeah its ok to use. Ive never had any problems using a few drops of water either but alcohol may work better im not sure on that. And the wax does work. I actually have been using a cleaner wax for cars (zainos all-in-one) and it seems to work pretty good. Id say what u have would work good. I tried a different carwax first and it raosed the grains of the wood so i guess only certain kinds work. The cue still gets green after a bit but it cleans off easier now that its waxed good. I actually dont need to use the magic eraser to clean anymore, now the wax removes any green and then keeps it from gettin in the wood so much. At least thats my experience. Also after you clean it burnish it good before waxing.

I have 2 original ivory ferruled shafts for my 1991 Schon. I got a new 29" shaft that I put an ivory ferrule on myself, and a new Schon IV that is 30".

Even as good as I've gotten with my cue repair, there is no way I can even attain a bleached white, new appearance with my original shafts, the wood just not anywhere close to that color wise. The 2 new shafts I have look pretty much like the did when the came out of the box, because I did work on both out of the box.

The sealer I make is water clear when applied, and that helps some, but eventually they all turn whatever color your chalk is,esp if you chalk with your bridge hand. RED is the worst as far as working on a customer's cue.

There is a difference between new shaft appearance and what feels best to some. Tommy D.
