Don't let the canceling of the ring game in New Orleans yesterday fool you into thinking the Big Ring Game at Southern Billiards in Starkville, MS April 24th, 2004 is too. It is ON BIG TIME. The current participants are:

Bobby Pickle, Nashville, TN;
Brian Groce, Columbus, IN;
David Matlock, Poplur Bluff, MO;
George Breedlove, Indianapolis, IN;
John Drew Hager, San Antonio, TX; and
John "Lil John" Marcias, Hattiesburg, MS.
Eric Durbin, Middletown, OH;

All posting their $1,500. I happen to like Brian Groce to win. Who do you like?

This ring game format seems to have more luck involved than even regular tournament (short race) 9 Ball (placing it somewhat below rock/paper/scissors in ability to separate players on the basis of talent). Having said that, George Breedlove all the way (if he's playing for sure).

Can't argue with that WIll, until you get to the final 2 or 3 it's quite a bit of luck. I believe that is what would help the ladies tour. How tired is the country of seeing A,K and J all the time? Boring. Gives a local favorite more of a chance to win. I figure our own Sarah Rousey has the same chance in a ring game that A,K or J has.

Hemi,

Local favorite? Like mine for example Lisa Marr, Kim Shaw, Tiffany Nelson, Romana Dokovic or Leslie Ann Rogers? I would love it!

Cheers,

Gremlin

Thought that idea might blow your skirt Green Guy. Blows mine. Yea, as you know, I have been pushing the Ring Game idea for some time. It's just common sense. You have to get lucky early on to advance in the game. Especially if there are no players in the game that are going to string racks of 10 ball together. Much of it would come down to heart. I believe Sarah has as much heart as any of them. Belinda has also.

WOW What a group. I've played in some 9-ball ring games with Brian and George. They both have great breaks. Hager just played Brian in Indy and they said he has that corner ball 4 rails in the corner a lot. Matlock is an incredible player and Durbin is an absolutely incredible shot maker. Who do I pick to win? I like Brian if he get's a chance to shoot, but with this group you may not ever see an open ball. Sam

Hemi, what time do they start? Also, is Southern Billiards like downtown Starkville? How far off 82? mike

Maughanm, listen to Carlton. He lives there. And, if you come, don't try to match-up with Carlton. He's a world beater in disguise. Note, Efren didn't get an invite. Carlton didn't either.

Thanks for the warning $.....I lose enough as it is! I've been wanting to see this place...heard alot about it. I'll be coming back from the Gulf that Saturday...If they don't play too early, maybe I can swing by there...mike Post a time when you can.

Hey, does Buster Merchant still play? Does he live in that neck of the woods?

Yea Skeezicks, Buster is still around. He played in the first SB ring game and has been invited to play in this one. There is one slot left. I'm hoping he can make this one too. He does work for a living though and sometimes he has to work on saturday. Buster is a world class person and lots of fun to be around. If he's in stroke, he just might surprise a lot of them. As you might know, he has in the past.

I played 'Buster' about 19-20 years ago at Gary's Triple Play (later Young's Triple play) getting the wild 7 & 8 in nineball. How'd I do ? He 'busted' me and sent me home with 'elephant ear' pockets. I guess that's why they call him 'Buster'... I agree that he's a nice guy and a good player. Imagine if he'd devoted all his time to pool.. Doug

Doug, you have no idea how true that statement is. Buster was turned out by a guy named Don Ballard. I know, Don who. That is my point. If Buster had been around a Buddy Hall or any top player at that time he could have easily played top 10 on earth speed himself. Tell ya how smart Don Ballard was, he gave Ronnie Allen 8-5 playing, that's right, one pocket.

I know you figured you had the nuts with the 7 and 8. Most of the people on this board don't know how you play so it's hard to tell, by that, how Buster played once. So try this. Reed Pierce and Jimmy Wetch roomed together when Reed was on tour. Might be a coincidence but Jimmy shows up at the same place, in Miss., that Buster happens to be playing. Buster doesn't know Jimmy and gives him the 6 ball. The Don Ballard match-up system at work. Get this, $3,000 later Jimmy Wetch is busted. Now, I am assuming Reed had nothing to do with this, wink,wink, but how do you think Reed would feel if he had sent Jimmy in on Buster,,,,and got the 6 ball and went broke. LMAO.

And, BTW Doug, my little buddy the Green Guy knows how Buster played too, LOL.
