Southwest Airlines. Why fly anything else?

Some high-profile pool player should get in with southwest to do some ads. I'd be happy to pitch it but I won't have time for a few months.

As a pool player I can't imagine why you would fly any other airline.

In addition to being cheap their 'no-fee' thing is beautiful for pool players.

I was booked to Raleigh-Durham for a flight tomorrow. I found out that the person I'm meeting up with will be leaving later than planned, so I was able to change my flight last night to meet up with them in Nashville - and it only cost me the fare difference, which was about $50. I can't imagine doing the same thing on one of the other airlines.

Now if we could just get them to allow pool cues as carry-on.

That kind of flexibility combined with low fares, I think with very little work they could all but sew up the pool players market. Especially with Las Vegas being one of their hubs.

That seems like a banner sponsor who might actually profit from pool players. And also be able to play off the pool player image of freedom and travel to reach their demographic of non-pool players.

They are a good airline but they just dont serve that many markets. I travel a lot-mostly out of S florida and NY. I use a travel search engine like Mobissimo and take the low fare provided the time is right. Southwest has never even been in the running. I've never been on one of their planes. Ive heard a lot of good things but have yet to be able to try them.

I swear by Southwest. I travel with them almost weekly these days and I almost never have any issues. My flights are almost ALWAYS on time and I have never had any luggage lost with them or been bumped due to over booking.

The BEST thing about them is that they don't contract out to those small (unsafe) regional jets like most of the major airlines have been doing lately to save money. It IS true that they don't fly everywhere though so that is a pain sometimes when I have to go to certain cities. But honestly, I sometimes fly to the closest city and drive just to avoid the hassle that I inevitably have when flying another airline. Every time I fly American or Delta, my flight is VERY late (many times have missed tournaments because of it) or had other bad experiences with them.

Southwest's travel rewards are awesome too, and VERY easy to use. It's not like AA where there are MANY restrictions on how to use it or when to use it. I have heard that the other airline that has great travel rewards is Continental.

I'm glad they just announced non-stops from Phoenix to Milwaukee and for the first promotion they had $39 flights for a few months.

They also have online, a "shortcut to discount fares" where they list the entire month's worth of flights to your destination showing the varying rates for each day of the month.

I like them, especially when I snag one of those super low Internet fares.

The key for me is checking in online 24 hours before my flight. Then I get to board in the A group and get a good seat with plenty of room for carryon bags etc...

:thumbup:SW is great, I used to fly 100 legs/yr for many years with them commuting between Veg/LA,

However one time I flew from Vegas to Ft. Lauderdale, it took 12.5 hours, it was 4 legs(meaning 3 stop overs) I knew that ahead of time but it was a free tick and I was on short $$$, my point is SW is good point to point but cross country SW can be a pain in the butt, and when you change planes 3 times thats 3 more times you can lose you cue.

I like non-stop planes when I travel, less chance of lost luggage and its faster, if that is within say $200 of something cheaper I will pay the extra $$$,

I remember the good old days when you could take your cue on board-except at Oakland Ca, they awalys busted chops about that, They would only allow it if the airline would escourt you up past security and take responsibility, That was before TSA took over and air port security was hired by local airports.

TSA sucks I was held like a criminal at the US Open this year for a hour, when they saw I had 8 or 9 grand on me they asked if I was gambling etc. I was a smart ass with my replies, man they wanted to take me to jail, I was taunting them bad, but they had zero grounds too, they knew that I knew that so I kept right at them. It was funny when they called over a real cop(he had to take my side) it was harassment like I never saw in my life. I am looking foward to this year there:eek::eek::eek:,

BUT YES SW ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Maybe they could at least gate check them and put them aside so you could pick them up when the flight landed.

The best part about SW is one that most don't recognize. During horrific weather when everyone else was cancelling, SW flew. I asked why. The steward simply said, "We always fly". If you've ever been stuck in an airport with a cancelled flight and no way of getting home other than sleeping in an airport, these three words are some kinda solice.....

I don't know about you but I DON'T want to fly in bad weather. There is a reason other airlines don't put planes in the air. And there is a reason why SW ALWAYS flies. I'll take the safe route!

Continental became my choice of airline when American started flying puddle jumpers to Dallas. I could get on the 6am out of Corpus Christi and be ANYWHERE in north America by lunch time usually. I accumulated a ton of miles and would only use them when the tickets were 400+. Southwest is ok, but I liked having assigned seats and got to board early with the frequent flyer program that Continental has.

As a long term stockholder, I'm loving this thread. On a personal note, I try to make every flight from western New York to Vegas a Southwest flight. It leaves Buffalo and four and one half hours later, it lands in Vegas. You can't beat it!

Fatboy, I believe you are incorrect about coast to coast. LUV flies direct to most major Northeast and Florida cities direct from Vegas. I've never been forced to take a four segment trip. Even on a Rapid Reward ticket of which I earn three per year.

As far as bad weather flying, I've never been on a flight I considered to be unsafe. The new 737 - 700's max cruising altitude is 42,000 feet. We usually go over the storms. If severe snow or thunder storms are forecast for the destination, they normally delay. There is a reason Southwest has never had an in-flight fatality. They are the safest airline to fly. They fly only 737's. Every pilot and mechanic knows the plane intimately.

No airline is perfect. They lost my cue case once. I flew to Buffalo (BUF). My cues went to Burbank (BUR). They gave me a free round trip for my inconvenience and delivered the cues and case to Rochester free. Still it worried me enough to keep a second set of cues in Vegas for use when I'm there.

Sorry for the rant folks. I just feel so strongly about Southwest Airlines.

Whats also nice, if your in the B groupings you can choose who you do NOT want to sit next to, that's a powerful tool, especially with crying children who are boarded first, or try sitting between two 300+ pound people on a two hour flight when it wasn't your choice. :)

If you see a fat guy in a window seat. Sit in the same Aisle seat. That way the middle seat between you will be the last one taken.
