I'm doing a shaft for a southwest cue.
Anyone know the joint diameter they use. Also need to know the minor diameter of the pin.
Thanks in advance.

Joint diameter for southwest is always 20mm.

I beg to differ.

1 mm = .03937" (x 20 =.7874")

That diameter is very incorrect for a SW. That's even smaller than a CueTec (.790/.795).

I have built many performance shafts for SW cues. Sometimes they are .830" & sometimes they are .835". Go figure. KJ

PS. I believe the minor dia. of the pin is .306"

the diameter varies on SW cues.sent you a PM.i have seen them range from .825"-.838".you will most likely need the butt.never mic'ed a pin.

Hi Steve
The majority of the ones I've seen are right around .826. The only one I have seen over .830 was refinished by someone else.

The joint diameter on my SW is .832 with finish. The minor diameter of the joint pin is 7.96mm measured at a bit of an angle due to the threads.

Southwest questions

Thanks for all the answers and pm's. I'll let you know how it works out when the customer gets the shaft.
Thanks again.

that sounded funny,"when the customer gets the shaft"

anyway,i saw some of your cues last night as JOB Music City tournament.very clean work.i was impressed.Joe Salazar had 7-8 of them, very nice.i almost bought one,and i haven't really bought a cue for myself since i started making them.

Steve, I just measure mined, I think Mike and Mason are right. It's around 21mm. Sorry about the 20mm.

A southwest collector will tell you that all southwest original will be 21mm not 20mm as stated. Where did I get that figure 20??

21mm would be .827",but i think they vary it a little.i have heard Kers used to start his off at .835" or so and hit some balls and go down to get the hit he was looking for.

But only after he took it to dinner and talked to it about how it should conduct itself at the table.................

Yeah I probably should have stated that differently. But i hadn't previously mentioned that it was a 314-2 so!!!

Joe Salazar lives about 40 miles from me. He really helped me get cues out to the shows when I was starting. I always book a few cues for him each year as a thank you.

Now that's funny - but probably a little too inside an inside joke.

Dale<who thinks he was more likely to just let the new
cue lay down beside an older one>
