SouthWest warning thread

That goes without saying.

If what you mean is it's always best to buy from established dealers, then my question is: Best for whom?

I was going to list my predate very soon. I'll probably hold-off in the wake of this nonsense. When I do decide to sell it, I can guarantee it'll be priced for at least 30 percent less than any of the 'good ol' boys' would be asking.

I'm not sure why the abrasiveness, but take a few breaths and reread my comments. Nowhere did I state or imply that. This type of foolishness and negatively is why this site in particular and pool in general has gone to the dogs.

You can see the attraction though right? Saving more than a few bucks on a high end cue? Greed is the cause most of the time when people do stupid things.

A true statement for certain...also if it sounds too good to be true?

Before YOU make a post like THIS maybe you should read his entire post. Nick said what arrived was NOT THE PIN PICTURED IN THE FOR SALE ADD...

FWIW, Nick is very well "educated" to SW cues....

The first sentence stated the pin was bare. Making a statement like that makes those that do not know sw cues well think that all sw cues have a cactus and that's just not true.

I think some of the guys posting in this thread need to read more closely.

In nick's op he states that a cue arrived with a bare pin *which was not what was pictured in an original ad*

How does that morph into Nick trying to mislead people here?

I've done a lot of biz with Nick and I'm pretty sure he knows all about predate SW's.

Thanks for the headsup, Nick.

best,
brian kc

Gotcha, ill take back my statement Nick but still think its important to point out that not all sw's have markings. When i first read it, that's what it sounded like so I can see how others might think that as well.

Yes, three real ones.

I have a working brain, so I figured out pretty fast how to make smart purchases. If a person doesn't have a working brain, they should, by all means, pay absolute top-dollar to have a dealer do the thinking for them.

Bad deals are not exclusive to Southwests, and the original poster should have had some real and specific information before he threw everyone but the dealers under the bus.

Over the past 5 years, I've seen and heard about lots more fake Scruggs than SW, but I don't see Nick scaring-off Scruggs buyers.

How in the world do you see this as Nick scaring off Southwest buyers? He's just informing people to pay attention and use someone with good rep.

I'm sure you will sell your SW when the time is right. No one will be deterred by this post and your pockets will be lined for more cue purchases.

His story about how he knows a guy who knows a guy who may have only been able tell the difference between the cue he saw pictures of maybe on facebook and the cue he actually received in the mail by the pin number is completely absurd. The shilling speaks for itself.

I don't know how anyone can read that post without their head almost exploding.

Here is what Nick said...

"When the Cue arrived the pin was bare. It was not the pin pictured of the Cue for sale."

He was saying that the cue recieved DID NOT HAVE THE LOGO LIKE THE ONE IN THE PICTURES OF THE CUE THAT WAS FOR SALE... That AND after examining the cue he knew it it as a fake. It was NOT just because the pin was bare...

If you wanted to warn OTHERS that the earlier cues had no pin markings then fine but you were saying Nick was somehow using misinformation, which he WASN'T. He knows that the early cues had no markings...

If you take an honest look back, you'll see it's the dealers (which includes guys who, though possibly not fully established as such, are always buying and selling multiple cues for profit) who cannibalized and finally killed Wanted/For Sale. From hyping flash in the pan builders, to buddy/buddy commenting, to filling the entire first page with a wall of individual postings, to constant bumping, to selling new products below manufacturer agreed pricing, to huge unpaid advertisements in signature lines, these are the guys responsible for bump limits, club memberships, posting restrictions, Panjo, and the eventual frustration and exodus of small buyers and sellers... The list goes on and on.

I've taken a very honest amd thoughtful lookback for several years now, and I think your assessment is pretty simplistic and short-sighted. There are a multitude of reasons why things have ended up where they have. And using the term "dealer" as an easy out here, trying to place blame, shows me your understanding is amateurish at best regarding these things. :(

Enlighten me, please.
