speed

I was curious does anyone know if there is an objective way to judge your speed? Possibly a way to tell if you are an A, B, or C player?

Yes, by playing a game named after a city that is about a third of the way up the eastern border of the state north of you.

If you are an average player among the regulars at your pool hall then you are a "C". If you can beat all but the top few players then you are probably a "B". If you are among the top couple of players then you are an "A". This only applies within your own pool room. You then have to factor in how competitive your pool hall is compared to others and adjust. An "A" player from New Hampshire may not be able to beat a "B" player from Pennsylvania.

The best way to tell is to play in "A", "B", or "C" rated tournaments and see how you do.

Fargo huh. I didn't think people played that much so I never tried it. Thanks.

I don't really play in a pool hall except when I'm at home. I play alot here at school and I can beat everybody I play. Although that's not saying much because most of them aren't real players.

Anyway thanks for the help

Try playing the "99" game as mentioned on www.poolmag.com! It will give you a good average and the point breakdown will give you an idea of where you stand on a larger scale. Be sure not to cheat anytime and play by the rules.

If you're playing 9 ball and can run 3 balls at a time and no more, you're probably a C player. If you can run 6 or 7 balls at a time, you're a B player. If you can run a rack most of the time when there are no big problems, e.g., clusters or you're able to hook the other player so you can dominate play on the table, then you're an A player. This is just a basic rule of thumb.

I can run an easy rack of nine ball. Although on average I run 5 to 7 balls. I think I have a big problem with experience though. I don't get the chance to compete very often.

Ratings are only for tournaments. What is important is how you rate yourself. If you know how to get your cue ball from one part of the table to another, consider yourself a seasoned traveler. You won't get lost in any airport in the world. If you know how to execute any shot, then you should have your rating in your heart. You will not have to be bothered with how they rate you because if you know how to rate yourself, you will know who you can take on or who you can take on. lol.

To me, until you have maximized your capacity in understanding the game and practiced every shot, every expense you make in pool is tuition - even for masteral and doctorate degrees. Maybe you will get refunds every now and then.

Don't let those ratings swell up your head enough to not want to learn anymore. Neither should you let ratings disappoint you. Get challenged in your heart but use your head in understanding all the ingredients of the game.

No code Larry. You must not have needed to diet in the 60s, 70s or 80s like the rest of us players, LOL.....$Bill

P.S. And it's Bi62 just for the record. And don't get mad Larry, I'm just playin with ya. Believe me, I'm not your enemy. Also, if you have to explain a subtle joke, it's not funny. I don't know maybe it's not. Most players KNOW what Bi62s are. They are,,,,,well,,,what's the title of this thread?

Thanks.

Knew it would cause I aint no smarter than you, I just probably took more speed in the 70s than you. Literally 99% of the players in the 70s played on it. Those guys got the joke, lol.

I got it. I laughed so hard,I spit up my Desoxyn......

Were there alot of players that played stoned in the 60's and 70's? That was a bit before my time.

To add further to my previous post. I was wondering more if players took some of the hardcore drugs. Coke, Heroin. All that junk?

Not to sound like an ass, but all that seems like it would knock your game instead of improve it. Sort of like when drunk guys play pool at the bar.

Not in my opinion. Speed isn't a drug, is it ? I thought it was a VITAMIN. We didn't take Coke or Heroin......... until the 80's.
Now, it's just Long Island Iced Tea and Adipex (Ionamin,Fastin, etc.) Immodium and Depends....

i guess whatever works for you. Although didn't McCready take all that stuff. He looks pretty rough now.

Well I hate to knock the guy. I have alot of respect for him as a player. I'm sorry though he doesn't look all that good.

I think I started this thread as something different. How I got on this I don't know. Don't mean to be obnoxious and upset anyone.
