Spring loaded pool cues

I've seen one and only one. A person in a wheel chair was using it. I've never tried one myself.

1970's

i made my first one in the 1970's and had a lot of fun with it at the pool hall. it was built like a hawaiian sling, the one i made about 3 years ago has a spring in a hollow butt. press it on the floor to cock it, then aim and push button. they are fun. but you cannot do all with them you can do, just using the swing of your arm.

btw a buddy wanted me to patent the one i made and after a bit of reasearch we found out they were patented back at the turn of the century, they are nothing new they have been around for a long time.

I had one, as a novelty, that I sometimes used in my college shows. Dr. Cue has one that he carries with him too. I doubt that you could get much accurate information, as the cues are not quality made, and there's a lot of "play" in how the spring-loaded shaft moves, making a really accurate strike on the CB unreliable for the purpose you seem like you're asking about.

So, I'm wondering if anyone have tried a spring loaded pool cue? What was it like? I was thinking about getting one if I could get it cheap off ebay, to test various theories I have on aiming, since the stroke would then be taken out of the equation. Any input is appreciated. And yes, I do know that they are not legal to use in a tournament.

materials

hollow alum tube for the butt, wood shaft attached to a steel rod that had grooves fitting into the trigger mechanism, used a coil spring from ebay for the power.

I have seen Dr. Cue use it in his show. He can set the tension on it for different speeds. He puts on a great show for sure with the passion he has for the game!

I took the Dr Cue has and have rebuilt it a few times. The last time I made the tube out of lexan so you could see the inner workings. It works pretty good but it not made to shoot pool with. Lots of fun to play around with but it will hurt someone. It has some strong springs in it. You cane get the one he has anymore. I have seen some knock off's but they are not as good. Here is a pic before and after. Still works like new

Matt...Tom has had to 'rebuild' that cue several times, over the years (it's 30 yrs old). Like myself (and you), he certainly does have a passion for the game!

edit: I didn't read the rest of the thread. Apparently Doug did the rebuilds! Good job Doug...tough to keep those old things working!

Thanks Scott, I rebuilt it several times over the years but it finally got so bad I had to remake and replace parts. I still have all the original parts in a safe place. It had taken a real beating over the years. Tom is one of my best friends and was the first to endorse my Stroketrainer. I am happy to do what ever I can to help him keep things going. Like you said, He puts on a great show and its a joy to watch him preform. He is in Vegas for all the tournaments so if anyone get to see him ask him about it. He would love to show you how it works.

I never even knew something like this existed. learned soemthing new today! Thanks AZB!

I have seen a few of them , I believe they were manufactured in the early to mid 70s in Pennsylvania.
The ones I saw , were not reliable as far as the strength of the shot.
If I remember correctly , they had rubber tips also.

I think the Nixx Stixx are newer, theyare not what I saw.

The one Dr cue has is the real deal. We have shot games with it before. It's not bad but you really have to pay attention to what you are doing as far as the load you put on the spring. This one has some power and will hit the ball harder then and player ever will. IMO
