Stainless steel buttcap

My Lucasi came with one. Other than that... I suppose someone can turn some stainless tubing or bar stock to make you one. I would think you will want a cue maker to do it. There's a lot going on with trimming down the butt, trim rings, butt cap rubber, screw in weights... Turning and polishing the ring is easy by comparison. I would still charge you for the 12" of bar stock for the 3/4" long ring you need.

ny good cuemaker could do it.
Are you sure you will like the hit?
How about stainless over phenolic

Interesting...

He should just wrap it in aluminum foil and lacquer over it.

I think that chrome looking thing on the cheap production
cues is just a decorative band and not a full stand alone butt
cap.

As weird as the hit is when you just remove the rubber bumper in a delrin butt cap, I can imagine what an all stainless 1" or 1 1/2" butt cap would be like.

I have reglued a few of those buttcaps you mention on Lucasi cues, they are not steel that`s for sure, chromed aluminum or something like that. They are very thin, compared to a regular buttcap, so it`s essentially as you first said and thin sleeve over a regular phenolic/Juma buttcap.
Seeing how heavy a SS joint collar is, I wonder of much a similar designed buttcap would be :D

This old guy in my senior league (we're all old but he is really old) I guess he is a car
guy, and he puts this chrome tape on all his cues.
Up close it's kind of hideous especially on his vintage Schon that could be a pretty nice cue.
A thin stainless sleeve over delrin or juma could be a pretty nice design, in the
vein of a two piece butt cap like some really good cuemakers swear by.
Doing it right could be quite a bit of work because the two pieces have to interlock.
Some tricky machining I would think, but I don't know.

Yeah I guess you will have to make a phenolic buttcap, thread it, then bore and thread an oversize piece of SS and turn it down to final dimesions and do the finishing as with delrin, you build your basecoat and clear up to the level of the SS buttcap. Still gonna be a hunk of metal though :)
