Standing close to the table b4 shooting is bad for you.

I'm always crooked if I stand close to the table and bend down to shoot.
Bad freakin' habit. Hey, even Johnny Archer is guilty of it sometimes.
I'm much more in line when I take three steps back then walk-in to the shot.
No aiming system needed. Just feel the correct angle of approach to the ob.
Tip of the day: Watch your back when you take 3 steps back. :)

Speaking of tips, with a little practice it is very easy to stroke easy and medium difficulty shots as you are stepping in without setting up before shooting, staying in motion. That and keeping in motion around the table positioning for the next shot as soon as you shoot is a fine way to rattle many other players. NOT that I personally have ever used such tactics you understand ;)

A friend of mine that has taught me a lot has always told me to step into the shot. He has a pool table in his basement and it was clear around the table until he started to store junk around it that belongs to his son that got married and moved out. Usually when I miss a shot he will say you didn't step into it. OK. The problem is the area is crowded with all the trash you have around the table. It got to the point where I don't go there to play because of the conditions.

Even without crowded conditions it seems as if I miss shots where I have to lean across the table at an akward angle and can't step into it.

Jimmy Reid teaches this as part of his instructions. He says to practice by just stepping into the shot and then swoop down ane shot without any warm ups. He claims that it will improve your game.

This is similar to what I was taught when I took some lessons. My instructor told me to lay my cue down on the line that I want the cue ball to go, then step into the shot. When I do this I don't miss many shots (positioning is another story). When I'm having a bad day, I check this first and it's usually the cause of the problem.

DOESN'T HAVE TO AIM AT ANYTHING AT ALL. BE INTERESTING TO SEE HIS TOURNAMENT RECORD.
