I'm not sure if this is IPT-related, but I thought I'd post it up in this forum!

There was an article in today's AOL News, which appeared in The New York Times, entitled: "Macao Surpasses Vegas as Gambling Center"

What caught my attention was this: ...The city’s transformation began in 2002, with the expiration of the Macao billionaire Stanley Ho’s colonial-era 40-year monopoly on gambling in the territory. New licenses were issued to a handful of competing operators as well as Mr. Ho, and a construction boom began.

The city now has two giant Las Vegas style casino-hotels, the Sands Macao and the $1.2 billion Wynn Macau, which opened late last year with 600 guest rooms and about 200 gambling tables.

Mr. Ho’s family of casinos and entertainment palaces are also expanding, betting that the casino and entertainment pie will keep his profits growing rapidly enough to further enrich his empire even though it is now shared it with competitors....

Just as a reference, Mr. Ho did lose his monopoly on Macau gaming, but his Casino Lisboa is still favored by the local hard core gamers, cuz theirs lots of backdoor triad action that can open huge credit lines for crazy gamblers. While that exists in the new casinos like Sands, its not as rampant. and the locals don't go as much.

So Mr. Ho is still worth plenty of money. Even if he were to buy the IPT, it would have been notihng..like google absorbing youtube.com, probably even less than that.

I've read a lot of posts about the IPT and the Ho Gaming deal. The last I read, the Ho group never really acknowledged their commitment to the deal. Was it ever brought up in any financial publication? Do we know were the deal ever really stood? I do remember that the anti gambling legislation was passed AFTER the Reno tournament.
