State of the AzB forums

You haven't developed much of a feel for the atmosphere and friendship most of the participants of this forum share.

You've managed to make as much controversy as possible and haven't made any attempts to "fit in".

From my POV, it looks like you've been here before and were banned. I hope I'm wrong about that, but that's what I think.

It's very hard to believe that it is all just a big misunderstanding and that you've been misjudged just because you're socially clumsy and your words are just misinterpreted.

Not plausible in my book.

Dave very well put! And Mr. Splinterhands what exactly did you mean by using this terminology Mike "Mussolini Man" ?

Simply put: The government cannot govern this site's content.

Howdy,
I am not sure about it.There are Federal laws Controlling tele communications. If I entered this AZB website using a dial up system and used profanity in the forum discussions ,Government,if chooses to prosecute me, can send me to the prison or what ever.

That is totally false...I ONLY talk about One....and I never fail to mention you
by name.

Wait, that's not entirely true. You have talked about asses in a general sense regarding every other post I've written today.

I know i haven't been here to long, but i'd like to say that this thread has made me feel a lot better about this place. When i first stumbled across this forum i couldn't belive the wealth of knowledge on here, everything i wanted to ask was answered and the fact the there were very, very good pool players posting regularly made everything a lot more interesting.

But in the past week or so thing seem to have gone really down hill. Players who i really respect have been driven away, every other thread seems to be someone bitching about someone else. There are a lot of dedicated and enthusiastic players on here and from visiting this site i can say the things i've learnt have made me a better player.

Keep up the good work Mike!!! :)

Yes and no. There are special laws that govern what can and cannot be transmitted on public telephone lines which could theoretically be extended to include data transmitted on a dial-up Internet connection. However AFAIK no-one has ever been prosecuted for such an offense anywhere. (After all look at all the adult phone chat services.)

Didn't the new Patriot Act open up a huge loophole as to the governments
cecnsorship or right to view or take down a website.
I believe it give them access to do as they wished legally. Not that they would not have illegally.

I personally like the site more than any other. There have been a few more
R-X rated comments and posts lately and thats something that I am not for.
I does not bother me personally as I like reading those as well but pool and
the interent transcends age. I would rather be a part of something thats
rated for everyone rather than have it a free for all.
IMO theres never been a forum anywhere that had zero problems. This site
has been fairly clean and still free enough to express ones opinion without fear of being a lepor on the board.

Whats the new major addition?? give a hint or something :p

Welcome to AZB. I think you'll find that the bad things tend to run in cycles. Right now there's more than usual. Mike gets things back in order pretty quick. Buuuuttt... you do need to have a thick skin sometimes.

Hi,
It is literally not feasible for the Government to prosecute every one that uses profanity on the Internet because there have been hundreds of thousands of instances where profanity is used. There are not enough judges and court rooms available to process all theses cases. But, if the Law wants to get any one it can ,when ever any one uses profanity.
More than 7 years ago one teen age boy was arrested in Michigan for using the four letter word when he was swimming in a river/lake.In connection with that I once heard on TV? or Radio? that according to common Law in Michigan,They could bring charges on Ex Senator Mr.Dole for his advertisement for Viagra. We have very scary Laws in our country.
Years ago British government appointed a commission to delete all their archaic laws that are not applicable to the current day, from the Law books.I never heard USA showing any interest in deleting inappropriate laws from our system. We need them so that they can be used against the people the system does not like.

The law with which they initially prosecuted the "cussing canoeist" was later deemed unconstitutional.

Yeah, because that'll just get my name right off the bill, b/c you said so. hah! No one owns me, we are friends. I don't believe that has anything to do with this board, or you really. Silly :D

I second Mike's thoughts. It's difficult to moderate something, especially if that's not the only thing you have in your life. I'm currently moderating/operating a certain hub and I always avoid banning people until there's nothing else to do to straighten things out.

Yep, as Terry wrote, bad things happen in circles. I hope things will calm down soon... again.
