State Open Tournaments?

Well, then, I guess we'll all just sit back and wait to see what you come up with.

I'm hoping not, since I'm seeking feedback. For example, no one commented on our concept of Round Robins as single elimination in the regionals.

I really don’t think the format matters much.

#1 is entry fee. The more expensive, the less players. In everything in life. Simply no way around that.

#2 is if weaker players have a chance. If they do, you’ll get more participation. If not, a few will keep donating to try to get seasoning, and that’s it.

#3 is if the players will have a good time, win or lose.

If you’re feeding into a state system though, there should not be any handicap, imo.

What are the requirements for a tournament to be a state tournament?

There are hardly enough to players to fill regular tournaments with advanced schedules posted.

If "organized crime" money were to get involved, they could make a selling off the young new faces.

There are lots of attractive young people playing pool, and they are all attractive from America, European, Asian, Middle Eastern and South American ways. Pool always sold international culture and international beauty.

Did anyone have a favorite female pool player growing up?

I always thought pool culture was historic and connected. Hopefully today someone is reading and able to invest in state tournaments as a way to promote local culture or interest based organizations to score political points in the US.

Imagine your small po duck state hosts a world champion from Kuwait, Philippines, Ireland, ...
Its cultural, athletic and diplomatic.

What are the requirements for a state tournament?

Is it unusual to you that I wouldn't post such things before launching tournaments, even though we're working out the details in this thread? I assumed you had experience in business management.
If you're working out the details in this thread you've already failed. It indicates a lack of knowledge and confidence.
The consensus here has been (through knowledge and experience ) that this enterprise has little to no chance of success.
You claim to want feedback and advice from people here yet reject same.

"He asked for thoughts/feelings about proposed tournament formats. Among what he is receiving is being lambasted, personally attacked, having his motives questioned, and penis measuring contests. Is it really that hard just to offer a little positive feedback, or STFU? Are people really this miserable?

With feedback like this, it is no wonder American Pool has died and been taken over by the rest of the world."

Actually, most of the posts here are supportive.

That's good. Just keep in mind, these forums are a fair sampling of the type of people that are your market. Take that for what it is worth.

I think you should target the younger crowd that treats pool more as a sport, as opposed to a game to get drunk while playing and take suckers' money. Similar to what the BEF or BCA does with juniors.

When I was younger (early 90's) I played in, APPA? It wasn't APA, I think it was aligned with BCA somehow. Anyway, there was a A, B, and C division of the state championship. I managed to get 3rd in the amateur (lowest level) and was so proud! 3rd in the state! That also basically strings you along for years, play in the C div, graduate to the B div, then aspire to play in the A div, lol. Unfortunately pool died out in my area around that time, all the major pool halls closed down, that was that.

A few show stoppers for my participation...

Tournaments that play well past 10pm until the wee hours of the morning. It is just chemical warfare at that point, and I'm not going to start a meth habit just to win a pool tournament. What other sport in the world plays until 2am?

Tournaments that have calcuttas/auctions, especially when they take 2 - 6 hours of play time. Those tournaments are a different beast, they have their own place, but it shouldn't be for a state championship competition.

Tournaments played on shitty tables, in places with poor quality lighting, smoking, poorly maintained equipment, etc...

It would also be nice to see "fun" things like state vs state battles etc.

Most of the posts here have pointed out the roadblocks you are sure to encounter. You don't seem inclined, first of all, to acknowledge them, and secondly, have any sort of plan to deal with them.
Until you do, you are destined to fail. That's not unsupportive or negativity, it's reality.

That's life (that's life)
That's what all the people say
You're riding high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said that's life (that's life)
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stomping on a dream

But I don't let it, let it get me down
Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around

Instead of sniping at me, read my 1st (#66) post in this thread. The 2 people mentioned will be more than happy to explain to you what you're up against.
Their opinions are worth more than everyone on this forum. They have actually done what you're trying to do.

RR's require too much time. You have to have a format that takes two days, three max. RR's sound great on paper, not so good in action.

All,

For the two or three people at AZB who don't already know, Sparkle trolls my posts. If I wrote "Hit the cue ball with the chalked cue tip," he'll respond, "Everyone knows to use the rubber bumper instead."

His takes were/are legitimate. Quit whining. Think its rough here? Wait til you post your first tournament announcement. If it ever happens. Want some advice? Probably not but here it comes: i'd walk away from this thread until you actually have a format and an event. We all know the shitstorm RKC dealt with his STILL stillborn pro tour.

His takes on a few things are legitimate, yes, for example, I'm familiar with the leaders he wrote about in post #66.

I don't think it's rough here at AZB. I do know who is giving good advice and who is trolling. I appreciate your advice.

You may be familiar with them but have you talked to them? My guess is no. My advice is, talk to them.
A good question to ask might be how much money it cost them before giving up. Not to mention the time and frustration.
