From the media coverage and fan support, and not to mention probably 3-4 of the top favorites to win were still there(including Ortmann who played supernatural) Id say Cohen is deserving of being the 2009 World 14.1 Champ

thanks for this.

I'm glad the media agrees that Cohen is deserving of being the recognized World Champion of 14.1

Yes, Stephan played some great pool, and his three 50+ runs to come from over 125 balls behind in the final showed great heart.

thanks

yeah thanks stu.wish i was there to hang with bill and see everybody.also ive only got to play in 2 14.1 tourneys on gc with good cloth.i would have liked to have seen how i performed.im always stuck on diamonds.

You were really missed John in more ways than one. With so few Americans practicing the sport (14.1) these days youre like one of the last shining outposts. As much as Archer is a great shot maker and Robles a great player and teacher I think your add into the mix would have provided America with an exciting team to face the onslaught of the European Juggernaught. I truly hope that next year you will be there and have enough opportunities to train for it. We need you. Lets bring the trophy back home.
And thanks to Charlie and DP for putting on such a great event.

Congrats to Cohen

Cohen is a savy player and deserves the win. I have competed against him many times and he has allways been a gentleman "no moves just pool, this is France Mr." Also thanks to Dragon Promotion's for keeping the World 14.1 'kickin', it sounded like there were many high runs this year on the Goldcrown fours and I wish I could have been there to compete but had prior obligations (maybe next year.) So look out Mr. Rosenstock :)

so john whats it gonna be pool or the x-games motocross.stop all that horseass shit and get healthy again and be ready for next years world tourney if we have one.the americans fell short again and all of us played ok especially archer and corey.bill did a great job watching and racking(haha).the pockets were huge and thats why the european players averaged about 50 balls an inning.just my suggestion but ride those bikes when your 70 years old and play now and give america a fighting chance to win what is ours the world title in 14.1.

Your friend,

hi

thanks for the concern.ive rode dirt bikes off and on my whole life and i get hurt once. ive gotten hurt playing other sports ,no biggie thats life.
i would hardly call my motorcycle hobby horseass shit.
ive owned several bikes, ridden tons, worked on and maintained them all myself and will be riding a goldwing to galveston 600 miles today ,even though my arm is still slightly cracked and hurting.
pool doesnt pay enough for me to treat it any different than it is which is a part time hobby for me.
there where other great players who didnt show ,not because a broken arm but were too nitty or heartless to go.
anyway take care bobby and practice up all year so you can win it and collect a few thousand.your friend john

Right on, John. Life is too short to give up the things you love for your career, and in your case, you love dirt biking. Nobody needs to explain to you that there are dangers associated with yours and many other hobbies, but everybody needs to appreciate that the human expereince is filled with risks taken in the name of making life more fulfilling.

So, good luck with your dirt biking and with your pool!

"pool doesnt pay enough for me to treat it any different than it is which is a part time hobby for me"

I think Bobby, whoever he is, is going to regret the words that he used in his post. But I think in his way he was trying to express his disappointment of you not representing the US and your fans for the World 14.1 title. As I was.
I didnt know that pool was just a "HOBBY" for you. With such a talent as yours I thought different as I saw you in so many venues and situations. When you said you wanted to be on the Mosconi team I was all for it. Now I have my doubts. I guess that is the difference between you and an Earl. As vicious as he can be I feel that for Earl pool and winning is everything. His profession, his life. It is why he is so dominant and consistent. He wants to win at all costs not just for himself but for his country. He reminds me of that old American Revolutionary adage, Dont Tread on Me and that resilient culture that we are so proud of.
I dont think the Ortmanns, Hohmanns, Soquet, Chamat, Immonens view their game as a Hobby. Neither do the Filipinos or the Taiwanese or the Brits. I think they take it very seriously. I think they can be beat though cause we have a culture of ingenuity, individual self determination, and sacrifice.. We've proven it time and time again. But only if someone can give their whole heart and mind to the cause.
It is really sad that we cannot financially support the cueists in the game we love like Tennis or Golf can. But with this new century and its technological advances I can only hope for better payouts. But there is still going to have to be those who excel and succeed at the game no matter what. And there will be.
So good luck with your hobbies John. I have the utmost of the respect for you. Have fun in life. But this year for the Mosconi my vote is going to have to go with Earl and Johnny.

actually earl plays golf 24-7 and the rest of the time forfeits if things dont go his way.
pool pays like a part time hobby and if treating it as such makes me a bad guy i dont know what to sAY.
VOTE FOR EARL THEN WE CAN LOSE AGAIN AND HE CAN AFFORD TO GO PLAY GOLF EVERYDAY .

So what happens next year?

Not disputing the legitimacy of Cohen's title, I think he deserves it based on the caliber of his play and quality of his opponents.

But if next year the WPA sanctions the tournament, who's the defending champ? They've made it quite clear that any player who wins a world title without WPA recognition is not an official world champ.

I have a solution:smile:. We can call Cohen the Interim-World 14.1 Champion, and solve the dispute via a TAR match. Niels Feijen vs. Stephan Cohen 1500 point match.

LOL! No ones calling you a bad guy John. As a matter of fact I have been a fan of yours and a rail supporter. But what is needed for the Mosconi Cup is, imho, Aggression. And calling pool a Hobby is just a little too passive. I dont think 10K which is what I believe the champ Stefan Cohen received is chump change either. And the rewards for becoming the 14.1 Championship will exceed beyond that.
As for Earl, I dont think voting out of fear of losing is the right attitude. Remember Earl won 3 out of 5 of his single matches at last years Mosconi Cup. 60%, which is the highest any US team member got. He is a 4 time World Champion, 5 times US champion, and a Hall of Famer. I know his behaviour is a cause for caution but at the same time he has said he regrets it. He has apologized and even given out flowers to the referee Michaela Tabb for being obnoxious.
I think the man genuinely wants to win even though he is short on human relationship. And I believe before his event does everything in his power to focus on his matches. Versus someone who says the game is on par with his other hobbies I have to go with the guy who makes it a life priority. Nothing personal.

i get what your saying, but its about results.
my start to win ratio is real good. the fact that i play only 10 events a year and dont practice much hasnt stopped me from earning 4500 per start this year ,which i believe would be leading the money list for money per start average.
what im saying is when i do play pool which is about half as much as earl ive made twice as much money.

so whether i treat pool like a hobby has no effect on how i play.
also going to nj for world 14.1 costs 2000. the 10,ooo sounds good but trust me only a couple guys make money .the rest end up with the same as people who play pool for a hobby.which is nothing, actually they lose money which is worse than playing for hobby.

the mc is different ,if i know im getting 10,000 to show im going to put up bike, clubs, girlfriend etc and practice for week straight and do my best.
no hard feelings yobagua but believe me if im on team im giving 110 percent effort. for that week pool will be a job and not a hobby.

earl and i are fine

i talked to earl and weve kinda settled some differences.
first i want to apologize .i was to hard on him saying if he made the team ill puke.
he will make the team anyway im sure so if i somehow am on team him and i are going to do our best to win.
i simply told earl if he would be more suportive of his teamates instead of belittling them and telling them they are dogging it to be more positive.
i gave him something to think about and i have a feeling he knows im on to something.

whether im on team or not good luck to the guys and if im picked ill do my best to help the team gel earl and all.
if we all get along we have a chance to win.

John

You always had my respect as a player now as a man and a human being. You got my vote.
Oh and getting back to the thread. I hope Stefan Cohen will be considered for the European team as well. I hear he plays a mean game of 9 ball.
