Still an Ace in Pool

The way Jack Burroughs sees it, they just don’t make leading men like they used to.
A movie buff, Burroughs is devoted to films from Hollywood’s golden era featuring stars such as Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck.

That relative whippersnapper, Paul Newman, suits his taste too. Burroughs said “The Hustler” is among the VHS tapes he has in his collection at home.

For over a decade, Burroughs has been doing his best “Fast” Eddie Felson impression while competing in billiards at the Oldlympics, an 18-day competitive festival for ages 50-and-over which kicked off this weekend in the San Jacinto Valley.

Burroughs, a Hemet resident, has no problem with the age requirement. He is 103.

Asked about the state of his pool game, Burroughs lamented it’s not what it used to be. Eleven years ago, he won the A flight -- the highest of the three competitive flights -- at the Oldlympics. In 2007, he was second.

“He’s pretty alert,” said Steve Tomlin, 69, one of the players. “How many (people) can drive at 103?”

Burroughs has maintained his driving license, limiting himself to short trips around town. He still drives himself to doctor’s appointments and to the local Sprouts Farmers Market for lamb shanks or fish -- which he brings over to his girlfriend’s to cook.

His car is a tan 1998 Cadillac.

There was a player from Montreal Quebec Canada his name was
Eddie Agha who played George Chenier the North American Snooker
Champion who went undefeated for over 20 years

iN 1980 in the Professional Snooker Tournament that was held
in Toronto Ontario he beat Tony Knowles who at the time was
Ranked top 10 in the World 9 frames to 3 frames

Eddie played fast and loose thats why they called him Atomic Agha
at the time he was around 60 years old also he made four
centuries in a row what an accomplishment

Eddie passed away about 16 years ago

Eddie was a great friend of mine and will be sadly missed

Jack Burroughs must be the world's oldest pool player.

...born the same year as Willie Mosconi.

Francis Ouimet, a gifted amateur, wins the US Open...modern golfers still owe this man
for his contributions to American golf.

Wow! I'd settle for just being alive at 103 if I knew who I was and what planet I was on. Being able to be that mobile and play pool would be a big bonus. Kudos to him - well done.
