Jay, I was in Florida a couple of weeks ago and ran into an old friend of yours. Steve Price, they say you judge a man by the company he keeps, if that is true you are true gentleman.

Steve was very nice, and knew a thing or two about pool. Played him some one pocket. He told of your exploits after the Army, pretty funny stuff. If you need his phone number let me know and I will send it to you in a pm.

Yeah, Steve and I had some fun together, doing everything possible to duck Nam. We wanted to shoot pool, not rifles! If I was going to get killed, it would be in a poolroom - and I almost did!

Years ago, he used to make some of the nicest cue cases anywhere. Why he stopped I have no idea. I wish I still had the one he made for me. Yep, I left Ft. Polk and headed straight to Johnston City in 1967. It was in progress when I got there. I stayed until I just about went busted. I saved a twenty dollar bill to get home on!

A '67 Vette with a 427 motor. Put out a rated 435 HP, and no smog junk! Dick Guldstrand set up the suspension for me, dropped the body down and put big rubber on it. That baby would still keep up with all the hot cars today, and outrun most of them. Did a 11.96 Quarter Mile the one time I took it out to Kilkare Racetrack in Ohio. I was doing well over a 100 mph thru the lights. IT SCREAMED! Only one problem, I collected tickets like water. I got my license suspended more than once for too many points.

Nice car. I was at the Pop Century resort in Disney World this year and they have a 1964 Vette on display. I was walking by it and saw a little kid climb up on it and start walking around on top of it with is shoes on. I guess the kid thought it was some kind of a toy. Almost enough to make a grown man cry. Here is a picture.

My best muscle car was a '65 Falcon that looked like a tame car on the outside but had a bored out 302 with roller rockers, Hedman headers, slapstick shifter, pure muscle. Very profitable car. Those were the good old days.

Jay and I drove all over La. in that car. I will never forget, we had some red neck sergeant that had what he thought was a hot Mustang. Now this 'ol boy was a big fella and when he got a load of Jay's Vette he turned green with envy and offered to "wrassle" Jay title for title.
Well, with approx. a 90 pound weight difference and something like a 6 foot reach advantage there was no way to match up. I mean Jay would have had to have a gun to make it any where near an even fight. I can't count the times I have recalled this story and laughed. It was basic training and AIT and we still had a lot of fun. I have always enjoyed the times we spent hangin out together.

Yeah, ole Sarge had a tricked out 289 Mustang. No contest! And he knew it. He was always bragging about that car until he saw mine. Then he shut up. :wink:

He was just joking about "rassling" with me. He was one big bad mofuker! I'd like to take him on the road with me. No one would dare mess with us. Not only was Sarge big, he was a well trained killer, with three tours in Nam. MMA, UFC - these guys would be a joke to him. In a "real" fight they wouldn't last a minute with him. They'd be DOA!!

Yep, the 289 Mustangs & Falcons, the 327 Chevy II's and the 326 Tempests were a helluva lot of car back then. It would take a pretty hot car today to keep up with them. No smog in those days, with tricked out hi-performance engines. Solid Lifters, Racing Cam, Four Barrel Carb with a Hi-Rise Manifold, Exhaust Headers, 11.5-1 Ignition Ratio, they had it all. And you could get this stuff from the factory! There were a lot of 400 HP "sleepers" running around back then. The 426 "Wedge" Dodge Chargers were scary fast as well. After the Vette, I had a 1969 389 c.i. Model J Pontiac Gran Prix. A high speed luxury car. The next year I traded it for the 421 c.i. Model SJ. That car would run rings around any high performance full size sedan being made today. Detroit knew how to make them back then! And gas was thirty cents a gallon, so that wasn't an issue. These cars were gas guzzlers, getting maybe 10-12 mpg.

The Fatboy Challenge has become one of the most popular spectator events at DCC. Great players, long matches and some nice money up for grabs. It would never have happened if Eric didn't come with the added cheese.

This is one where we both give back to the game. He puts up the dough and I run it gratis. I got a good roll this year. Efren won $6,500 and he tipped me $200. Let's see, it was about 15-16 hours long from first ball to last, so that comes out to well over $10 an hour. I'm overpaid once more! :wink:
