Stories Of Players That Made Good $ W/O Pool

aside from his years as a teacher he owned a pool room in NJ. He was probably never without a nice income that had nothing to do with playing pool. Later he had his cue line and inducements and another pool room in Florida that he had when he died. I don't know what he made from the Miller thing, I am sure not really that much, they had like 20 other commercials running at the same time. It really upped his profile though.

The Miz also made some stock market investments when he was still jn college.
He said he got really lucky.

I don't doubt it he was a smart guy. He would be on the phone for hours setting up deals. He parlayed his Miller fame in to a cottage industry. I used to have one of his brochures for his exhibitions but they were really more then that, they were more personal appearances. He capitalized on new found his celebrity outside of the pool world.

They would set up a pool table and he would do his thing at conventions that had nothing to do with pool like a car dealer or tractor convention. This didn't all just happen. He told me once that he did get a little lucky with his Miller deal he knew that, but it is what he did with the opportunity that really made the difference.

If another player had gotten it, they would have taken the little money they made and just went back to what ever they were doing before probably never to be heard from again.

The Miz was one hell of a talent....I brought a good set of balls once
for an exhibition he was doing....he announced " First I'll run a hundred,
then I'll show you all a few trick shots." ...he got a few face palms...
..but then he did just that and got mucho applause and respect.

There was a down-side to all that the next day...I saw him wearing
an over-size t-shirt...How does a man that size find an over-size anything?
So I said "Is that your t-shirt or my bed spread?
He tried to strangle me....

I miss the Miz
