Stories Of Players That Made Good $ W/O Pool

do i really need to state the obvious?

SHE, must have SOMETHING(S), that most OTHERS don't, to be SUCCESSFUL, in pool, and life.

(she knows how to "work it" & not "blow it")

She is an amazing woman. She's all business most of the time, but even then you never realize she's working you. LOL. JT

Well, Donny owns his own lot, so you can be sure he does pretty well. He puts in plenty of time on the lot.

Jeanette Lee's husband, George Breedlove, makes good money with his furniture. He's another guy who's down on the factory floor (rather than sitting in an office), making sure things are done right.

I don't know what kind of cash donny mills makes, and it's not anyone's business on here, but he's certainly a really good player and holds down a good job as a car salesman.

I actually did graduate from high school and went on to further my education in several areas......although nothing's as good as "pool school" - 'The Game is the Teacher'

You should be very proud of your success. Thank you also for how you present yourself. I appreciate those players past and present that dress and act professionally.

You look good and you make us look good too.

Ken

Although this may contridict my other comment. I woud not be surprised that "NOT" having to depend on pool playing earnings would help you to be a better player. It seem that most of the conflict is time. It is hard to work full time and devote the hours to pool that is requires to be a top player.

But if one can solve that conflict then a working player may be bettet off and their game may reflect it. Not to mention they will have a longer happier carrer. I think peopl like Miz and Varner may be good examples. They found a way to do both and it was a net +.

How about Artie B from the One Pocket Hall of Fame, and notorious Chicago 1P player who has a career winning percentage that would make Michael Jordan cringe a little ;)

He took so much money from the casino's sport books, (millions) they don't even allow him to place wagers anymore.... of course, that was after "they" convicted him and sent him to prision (18 months ??) for making legal bets in a Casino ? No cheating, no scams, nothing illegal in the least.

yeah, nice to have the "feds" in your pocket when you're a billion dollar casino and you want folks to stop taking your cheese ;)

What did Miz do, I thought he left teaching once he turned pro ??

Mizerak got famous to non pool players via beer commercials and then leveraged it to selling his own line of chinese cues in Kmart. He may have partnered with Adams too to get the higher line of cues done when the business really took off.

A few guys that come to mind who competed at pool but made a lot of money at something other than competing at pool or through pool-related endorsements:

Pete Margo
Nick Schulman
Tom Ruocco
Art Wiggins
Terry Bell
Larry Hubbart

Finally, Tom Jennings, a two time US Open 14.1 champion, was a college math professor. No idea what a college math professor makes.

This is an awesome time to be involved in pool

I appreciate you saying that, Ken, we certainly need to expand our asset by presentation and entertainment quality to propel pool into a position that receives public attention.

There's some optimistic signs that we will get pool back in the public spotlight very soon.....there's some professional producers looking closely at how to bring out the "best of the best" in pool and billiards....this is an awesome time to be involved in pool.

Vivian Villarreal is another player that has represented the sport/game really well for many years. She just hosted a great tournament in McAllen this past weekend that drew over 80 players with $10,000 ADDED.....and they say it will be $15,000 next time.....I "almost" had a 90's flashback, however, Rob and Joey played well to get to the finals.

Thanks to everyone at EASY 8's Billiards and SportsBar for a fantastic event and supporting the future of the game. 'The Game is the Teacher'

AFAIK All of Mizerak's cues were done by Kao Kao. The maker that grew into Fury cues.

Little known fact: When Miz would travel to Taiwan the owner of Kao Kao would line up money games, for up to $10,000 and Steve never lost according to my friend.

Well JB beat me to it with Weenie Beanie but how about Bucktooth?

I don't think Tooth fits into the category of top tier players.

We want guys like the meatman Joe Balasis, shoe store owner Harold Worst, Cadilac salesman Arthur Cranfield.

Tooth and Harry Platis are successful people who are mediocre players who dabble in high stakes pool.

Congrats CJ. Some people think you're all washed up with no shot :-)

What did Miz do, I thought he left teaching once he turned pro ??

aside from his years as a teacher he owned a pool room in NJ. He was probably never without a nice income that had nothing to do with playing pool. Later he had his cue line and inducements and another pool room in Florida that he had when he died. I don't know what he made from the Miller thing, I am sure not really that much, they had like 20 other commercials running at the same time. It really upped his profile though.
