Exactly! I myself ran a 684 the first time I ever played 14.1, but knowing that no one would believe it, I pretended it didn't happen. Your post brought back the repressed memory. I'm glad you have reinforced my decision to disregard my 684. phew, relief at last! you're right, that run by Mosconi doesn't count either.

For me, the highest run is Art "Babe" Cranfield's 768, supposedly one of two runs he made over 700. I mentioned the run, made in practice, to Irving Crane, and Crane said he guessed that Cranfield, a practice room workaholic, had run over 300 more times than any player in history and that his run of 768was very believable. What I don't know is whether this run was on a 4 x 8 or a 4 1/2 x 9.

Also, I believe there were witnesses to Thomas Engert's 491, which, because it was done on a 4 1/2 x 9 table, might have to be viewed as better than Mosconi's record.

It is sad that our game isn't more efficient at recordkeeping and these debates will go on forever. That's one of several reasons I hope John Schmidt sets a witnessed, taped, record run.

Thomas had witnesses when he ran 491. absolutly right about the record keeping. John already set 2 taped high runs with his 294 and the 366 thats coming out someday.

storys about 3 4 or 5hundred balls

When those great, great players (Mosconi, Cranfield, Crane etc) were alive.
There Were No Stories Either.
I believe every word of what I heard about them.

there are guys with 300 or 400 ball runs. Want to hear a little story from Oliver himself ? He said he had his high run of 326 in a race to 1000. this was over in 7 innings ! and he was 19 or 20 yrs old that time !!!

if i had enough money, would give 1million dollar for the 500 ball record
sure that efren makes it

ortmann runs first 100 at the age of 18,since that every day
1990 or so german championchips against vondenhoff he ran 100out in 18minutes,but the referee was the problem,he was very nervous to rack up the balls faster
but thats no stories
when i say stories for example, ingo schweden ran 560 or 580blablabla
i think in germany we have the most 500ball runners on earth
and the best cuemakers too
and the best forum billard-aktuell.de:D

8foot mosconi 526 in exhibition
9foot jesseallred?
10foot crane 309 in exhibition
whats about euphemias run ?

Mosconi actually tied Crane's 309 on a 10 footer, then a few years later ran 353 and then 365 also on a 10 footer.

So, what is the German word for modesty?

Hussa,

there are many *stories and tales*. For sure i saw 2 runs from 326 and 367 (against me -_-). This guy doesn t play anymore bc of healthy problems. Another high-run i just saw the last 280 balls or so from him where he started this run already-must have been close to 500. But just about the 2 first shown runs i can swear :)
the 326 run was in a game to 1.000 points. He finsished in 11 innings- and i lost to 191. Strange feeling when you re feeling that you played extremly good.....and get beaten that way..uff^^

What would it be without *those* tales of the table *grin*. And even i wasn t *live* there....i would believe every word about Engert and especially Oliver. But i m sure there are several guy who shot about 200-300er runs. But not that often like Oliver, Engert or even Toasti. (just about germans). And most of the time *other* guys going around and tell those stories. Players like them don t need to advertise such things-they just *have to know* that they ve done it.
