Streaming PPV....what's the right dosage

I enjoy all the streamers. They are all passionate about pool. And for that I thank them.

  1. One thing I really like about Accu-Stats is their half day option at a discount.
  2. I also like how TAR loops the days matches till the following day.
  3. I like Lenny's Saturday One Pocket he does every so often.
  4. And I like Bigtruck's willingness to hop in his truck and drive a couple hundred miles for action or what he does with the regional tourneys.

Would it ever make sense to charge by the hour or something less than the full day? Or even for just certain matches?

Regarding action matches, I don't like bunkering down for three days in a row. Don't get me wrong, I do it but it makes me feel like I have excessive billiard disorder.

I also realize for action matches it doesn't make sense to sell less than one day. So what I usually do is buy TAR matches by the day and end up buying all (3) days at the premium price.

And one year I bought the early bird special for the US Open. And so I spent a whole week watching pool Saw many great matches but that was a very heavy dose of live streaming.

Somehow there has to be a way to reduce the dosage and still get some enjoyment.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic...

Thanks,
Mark

Hahaha. EBD. Lets just add that one to the list of many these days.

Been suffering that one for many years now. Other than table time, beer, food and of course, those of us that like pretty cues and cases even tho we can only play with one at a time.

For me, 2 lathes, tooling, jigs and a half ton of sleeping wood in the basement. I am truly a cue supply junkie on top of that.

But this is the way I think of it. Some people like fancy cars/trucks, ATVs, snowmobiles. Others spend their money on clothes and jewelery. Whatever floats your boat is fine. I don't go for any of that. I'm pretty basic that way.

For me, its all about pool, cues, cases, lathes, wood, supplies and related equipment. Thats what blows my hair back, (if I had any).

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their needs and this just happens to be where we all have something in common.

WOW, did I ever get off topic there for a minute. Sorry about that.

OK, on top of that, I will watch live streams and UTube matches till the cows come home in the morning. And thats after I get in at 3 am after playing all day and most of the night. It may be hard if not impossible to buy hourly or for certain matches from the streamers.
What would happen if a match starts early or late?

I think the best way it can be done is how it works now. You can buy a day pass or however many days you want. But for me, I have almost zero responsibilities now late in life so I can do what I want when I want. For others it may not be so easy.

The only thing I am not allowed to do is turn the router on and do shaft work at 3 am. The bedroom is right above the shop.

I needs help.

We need the espn of pool to come together it will give it time my money is on tar/csi

you said it all my friend and I agree with you....

I really love accu-stats as my #1 because they really do it as professional, Pat fleming know what he's doing and ofcourse due to him, and his staff been doing it for too long, they kinda know the right things when it comes to how to position the camera, exactly where it needs to be, and how they pick the commentators, basicaly their videos/streams are full production on every aspec, the angel/distance on the camera is inch perfect, where other streams May come little bit close, or too far, they also understand how important it is to have a communicator that know what he's doing, because believe it or not a commentator can make a match really interesting and entertaining, even if its terrible match, and the other way around is right also, a bad commentator could make a match awful even if its good, take billy incardona for example, he never will tell you after a break "Oh he's out" unless its a connect the dots layout, he will tell you there's something tricky, or he needs this perfect angel on this shot, and when a player comes to that shot it really become a problematic the way Billy predicted it would be, other commentators would say , oh this is easy, he should run out now, this ruin the stream/video for me, gota make it interesting somehow...

I also like TAR as my #2 due to the fact they loop the streams afterward, it really helped me due to the timezone different and where I live, all streams should do this, I really like accu-stats to do this also, for example when the US Open starts I always end up sleeping in the morning and waking up all night to watch it, its hell for me, because when first match starts say at 10:00 morning in US time, it would be around 1:00am after midnight here for me... so its hard for me to watch, TAR helped me with this, i can sleep all night, wakeup and watch what i missed. :)

Now that's some funny shite there...hahaha

Good input and you hit the strong points of each.

FYI, my numbers we not meant as a ranking. Just how they popped into my head as I was typing. I can't pick them. It's like picking your favorite pet. My little Pug Bigtruck is ugly as hell but I love him as much as my St Bernard, my Terrier and my Labradoodle...just kidding

you said it all my friend and I agree with you....

Good thread!!!
I get way more tired watching than playing and after a multi-day stream I am toast, not to mention half blind because I have to watch on my lap top
small screen.

As far as things I like: I like the half day thing that Accu-stats has going.
And their production, and commentators are good. They've been doing it the longest and if I'm to be honest they do it the best.
I must have close to two hundred Accu-stats matches on DVD by now and get new ones every month.

That said TAR does a good job too!
I also like the loop thing that TAR does. So if I can't watch from the beginning for what ever reason I can watch it later, if I so chose.
The one commentator thing (Not so much) even though Ken does a good job, I find it much more enjoyable with two perspectives on the match and hearing their sometimes conflicting points of view. It starts to wear on me a little one commentator for a long time. Or when sometimes they're commentary (not Ken here) goes way off the match at hand for to long a time.
Somethings that I think would make the TAR matches even better than they already are is to not have just the table lit, I think it makes the viewer have a more complete experience ( more like they were there) by having some light around the the room so you can see the crowd a little and I
think at least in my opinion that viewing the match itself would be nicer if the back ground wasn't just black so you really can't even see the players back hand sometimes, or the player in the chair behind them. Don't know about you but I like to be able to look around and see if I know anybody in the crowd sometimes, it helps to break the experience up a little for me.
The last thing that I think that would improve the TAR matches is individual player interviews always after the matches (which they do most of the time) and if for some reason that isn't possible at least keep the camera and mic going for just a little while just like you were there in person. (Like they did after the 10 ball finals with Busti and Orcollo for the presentation that was a treat to get to see them other than just shooting, which is always a treat) Please I hope no one takes these suggestions in any way other than positively meant suggestions. I think TAR as a whole does a good job and remember they haven't been doing this forever and will only get better as they go because they care.

I forget who said it but the commentary can help to make an average match way better or in reverse turn a good match into just bearable
sometimes. I know this has to do with budget, just saying the more enjoyable the matches are to watch the more people will bla bla bla...

I think the DVD's being available again as Justin said will be great, because I like to watch a shot and be able to rewind it a few times to see everything I want to see. Watched the entire Alex vs Shane match first race to 100 where Alex made the best come back ever 12 times now and will watch it again probably in the future sometime.
Best match ever in my opinion and am glad TAR was there to capture it all. Thanks TAR!

I love the streams, and I buy a lot of them. I will say though, that I like DVDs better, because I can watch them on my own time, and as many times as I want. The down side to that is you have to wait until they are produced, if they are produced at all... AccuStats probably does the best job of anyone with the DVDs, and they are running a 10 for $100 special that is hard to beat. TAR said this weekend that they are working on bringing back their DVDs in the very near future. Very soon, I would expect streaming video on demand to replace DVDs, but until then, I am perfectly happy with DVDs.
