Strongest APA regions

I live in a town of about 30,000 people in Southeast Mo and we seem to do well every year. We have won both 8 and 9 ball titles and dont know how many top 10 finishes but it is a bunch. Population has nothing to do with talent and or sandbagging. I know that bash is coming. Ive seen teams I think had the nuts to cash go home early and teams with no chance make top 10. Thaere isnt much rhyme or reason to better areas.
As far as individuals its the same. I have played the minis 8 of 9 years now and played all of the 6-7 in 8ball and the 8-9 in 9ball. Some of the 9 wouldnt have a chance where I live but have played to their skill level and some LO do run a tight ship so to speak. I once asked my LO to raise me before going to Nationals and he refused to raise me saying 7's run racks. I was a 6 in 9 ball trying to get raised and couldn't. I won something like 29 of 32 matches BIG and couldnt get raised. When we got back from Vegas after a 5 place finish I believe I finally got raised to7 and was a 9 in less than a year. I now have to spot people in league that will spot me gambling but seem to do well in Vegas in the minis. ALOT of matches in Vegas are won in the 5 match by 3 or 4 SL that are way underated. Good players dont the big tournament as often as smart players win it.

JUST my 2 cents worth.

There are good players in AL, my comment was only about the APA. The better players do not play in league here anymore. It is also that David Rowell, Tim Orange, and even Tyson Allen far outplay the other 30 APA 7s in Birmingham.

I didnt know that there were 33 SL7s in that group. Also didnt know that Tyson played better than that many others. I have known Tyson for a while. We have had some fun gambling and playing in the past.

Who are the better players around "the ham" now. Last time I checked
David was an activ member. That surprised me. I ran into him at APA nationals. I remember when he couldnt play at all.

Yes they did. Richie Idrovo's team won the national team tournament, but was disqualified after winning, because they sandbagged. Their championship was taken back, along with the prizes, and the team members were banned from APA for two years. Not sure of the exact year, but I know it's been sometime in the last 10 yrs. This was in an article in Billiards Digest some years back, when it happened.

Chicagoland has had a few near misses over the years but never THE winning team in the APA team event.

This is incorrect, Ritchie never got banned in the NTC. He did get baned by a certain LO but that was it. That was a few years after his team took 2nd place at the NTC (1998)

Yepper. Same reason as Jason I was told.

It seems like Ritchie, Ike and some other guy won the masters a few years ago.... who was that 3rd player again???

This is like sports posting boards...some of those arguing that the SEC is the ONLY football conference. But...if it were USC vs.LSU on the BCS "championship" game? I'd vote for USC. As it stands? The smart money is on LSU against Ohio state. Me? I love to root for the underdog.
That's not the way to bet. So, I don't bet. To argue about where the best league in pool lives? Equally as silly, if you ask me.

You are correct sir. They lost to a team from Southern Illinois or Louisiana in the finals if I remember correctly. Came down to the 8 ball in the last game of the hill match. And yes it was right around that time that his LO banned him. He eventually was reinstated under a different LO as you well know.:)

IBA, Since Scotty W. lives there now, how do he and Tim Orange play?

David plays enough APA to stay active. Tyson doesn't play that great, but the other 30 certainly don't.

Scotty actually plays on my APA team. He never practices and pretty much only plays during league or in a local tournament. I do not knock someone's game or provide free lines (no offense meant here Hemi) especially on the internet. Also, TO has not been playing much lately. Even stating what a fair game would be now would not give you a good gauge of either of them.

I will say, it is a pleasure to have Scotty on our team. He continues to play well and is at the Derby right now.

Good for you, IBA. Now, tell Scotty to send me my damn tape or a DVD back, LOL.
