Doing my first sub rail extension on a GC2. My brother is my business partner and of course we are disagreeing on the size of the rail extension. The question is on the thickness of the extension 1/4 or 1/8 th or other? I will not say who wants which since I do not want to influence anyones opinion. We do not know who the buyer will be so we are looking for opinions and some expert advise on which will make the best table for the new owner who ever that will be.
For the experts.
Also what size pocket opening should I expect using 1/4 and a 1/8th extension? What type of wood should I use or does it matter? I have seen the thread from RKC and it was very helpful and I am looking forward to doing this. I have been doing tables for about 18 years (not full time) but have never done a subrail extension. I have 4 more Gold Crowns to do after this one.
Thanks,
Don

3/16" plywood, 3/16" neoprene and pocket angles of 141 or 51 degrees = 4 3/8" corner pocket openings, and 4 7/8" side pockets.

Thanks for the advise I will make another trip to the store and try to find the 3/16 ply. I did not remember seeing it at Loews but was not specifically looking for it.
Thanks
Don

Thanks for the tip but I did find some and have already got them installed. Just a little more shaping and sanding and they will be ready for the super speed cushions. :) I think I am going with the Simonis 860 HR on this one. I have not played on the HR yet and since we do not have a buyer yet I guess I will just have to set it up and make sure it plays great before I sell it :)

Look better then the first ones I ever did very good job. From here on out they get easier with every other table you do from here on out.

Thanks for the encouragement. I chose the worst Gold Crown of the 5 to be my guinea pig. The rails on this one have been recovered A LOT. Not a big deal but I might have to use longer staples. Wish I had gotten some before pics of the aprons I think they look gorgeous I will try to get a pic of the long rails they have a lot of character. I can't wiat to get this one finished and play on it. Wish I have room in my haouse for it.
Thanks everyone for all the advise and posts. More pics to come maybe I will even learn how to post them so you do not have to go to photobucket to see them.
