Jimmyrayk has given a couple ICCS sneak previews so I thought I would throw one out there also. Here is a brand new Sugartree I received from Eric today. This is a 8pt beauty with Narra, Ebony, and a ton of ivory. All white on the cue is ivory. There are 24 recuts in the cue. 8 ivory points recut into 8 Narra points, and 16 ivory scallops recut into 16 Narra scallops. Eric topped it off with a set of matching joint protectors and a leather bumper. Enjoy!

Cool pics, Jamie :) Here's a few I took. It got ivory ferrules & kamui tips, after the pics. I'll also add that the extent of technology in my shop is digital calipers, so everything was done manually. I'm pretty proud of this cue, lots of work & lots of worries, but it worked out in the end.

Amazing cue Eric. Can't wait to see it next week in KC.

How many ivory pointed cues have you made?

Not many. I have completed a couple. I have junked more than I have completed. In earlier times I would attept a fancy cue & it was just beyond my skill level at the time. Now i'm pretty comfortable doing anything with any material. Even still, I began three of this cue & through process of elimination I chose this one to complete.

i like that bumper.beautiful cue Eric.hard to manage fancy and classy but you did.

Wow!!! Eric what can I say??? Wow thats just awesome, I love it, the scalops are just great and the rings. Man your big time now!!! I'm so happy for you.

Thanks much for the kind words, guys. The cue was fun, frustrating but fun. I have never been a "fancy" kind of guy, so this cue was challenging.

A huge thanks to Wes Hunter for the support, friendship & mentorship. Without being able to tap his experience & knowledge, this cue could have been in the trash on several occasions.

I really like the JP's to.

Those were a b!tch  They are solid ebony, with a threaded tenon. Basically, they are made like the typical delrin J/P's except with ebony and ringwork. Those bastards are as much work as the joint of the cue & shafts!!!!

Beautiful Cue

Excellent work in this cue:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :bow-down: :bow-down: :bow-down: :bow-down: :bow-down:

I've heard that a lot from cue builders.

I love the ivory re-cuts
Nicely done in the handle too

The cue is awesome
It makes my scalloped handle ST look like a plain jane.
I thought I had something kind of special, so much for that.
Oh well, now I'm just going to get it out of the vault and play with it.

Thanks for sharing these great pics prior to the ICCS

You'd better get that cue some table time!!!! That's what it was built for. You are gonna piss it off if you neglect it. It's hungry, needs to hunt :grin-devilish:

I've heard that before
It's too nice to take around in these congested bars where I play some of my leagues.

Stunning to look at, and people that aren't in to cues appreciate the wood and the workmanship.
The highly figured wood just grab you.
Almost looks like faces in the butt sleeve.

I do take it to the pool hall when I'm practicing, or playing show & tell with people.
I never get tired of looking at it though.
I'll use it all weekend just to show that I'm not neglecting this work of art

Awsome cue Eric, I especially like the ringwork. The ivory work looks great also!! Guaranteed to turn heads at the local establishments. I'm sure it plays as great as it looks.

eric what was your thinking behinf the bumper. was it from something special? like to hear the story. get work pal

I knew an old builder in Santa Barbara, not sure if he's stiff around or not. He really left an impression on me. He would walk the beach every morning & evening, picking up debris & driftwood & such. He'd look for old sandals & boots that had the laminated leather soles. He clamped them in a drill & used a holesaw to cut out bumpers. They polished up great, were classy, did a great job of protecting the cue & never costed a dime. I liked them because they were different & high class, as well as non-absorbing in terms of harmonics & vibration. It's like having the protection of the bumper without the dampening affect. And they look friggin cool :)

Anyway, he approved my using of his idea. I don't actually cut mine out of old shoes, though. I make mine. I have used them in cues for years, mostly higher end or special cues. But I learned a lot about cues from that guy. He was deaf but understood the harmonic dynamics of the cue, and how to manipulate it to feel like they were alive.
