Sugartree / Rounceville Sneaky!

Several months ago I was shooting pool and a buddy handed me his Sugar tree cue to hit a few with, very cruel … It took me a while to start ½ way liking my cue again. Now it seemed like my cue made a thud sound when I hit with it… it just wasn’t working for me. Fast forward to this past weekend, I got my new “True” Sneaky pete cue by Sugartree cues. I say true sneaky because it doesn’t have any adornments (collars at the joint or inlays) Eric even hid his signature on a dark spot of the coco. I asked for a cue that looked like it came off the pool hall rack, well except for the quality of the wood. If it wasn’t for the outstanding birdseye maple and figured cocobolo giving it away you’d never know it wasn’t a house cue… well that and the “ping” of the solid hit, and the high gloss finish. LOL Eric put this together with an outstanding Rounceville blank. The points are even and sharp at both ends there isn’t a flaw to be found. Here are some pics. BTW I have on good authority there will be a Sneaky Pete Sugartree series coming out. I just have #1 :D

Eric's Cues plays outstanding

I really want one but Eric never came back to me, send alot of Emails:(:sorry::confused:

:) Glad you like it. Andy's blank work makes a cue like that easy to build. I can't really take credit for anything but finish work. I don't do many sneakies because they are such a PIA to get the points right, but that's not the case with Andy's blanks.

Really nice workmanship ...

Thanks :) Props are really due to Andy for doing such a great job on the blank. This cue really was a tester for me. Yotehntr is a local friend of mine. We hunt burls together & work together processing wood. He's honest to a fault, and not worried whether or not he hurts my feelings, not to mention plays a strong game of 9-ball. He's an accomplished woodworker himself and knows quality, so I surprised him with this cue to get an unbiased opinion from somebody who knew what to look for. His response only confirmed what I already knew, that Andy is making blanks at a quality level I personally have never seen before. I have been wanting to work with Andy but wasn't ready to dive in just yet without some confidence. I now have zero doubt. I love everything about sneakies, from simple tru sneaky to the ones with rings & flies & such. I just quit making them when there were no good blanks anymore, and making my own is a PIA. Now perhaps I can have some fun with them again

LOL Yeah Eric was the buddy that handed me his cue to give it a try... I really think it was a sharking move though.LOL He laughed when I tried not to give it back, offered him my cue in exchange!

It was really cool to watch my cue being made. There is much more to it then slapping a finish on. Keeping the blank perfectly centered to keep from getting the points uneven, and several different techniques he uses to give that perfect hit. It's not luck or by chance by any means.

Eric plays a heck of a game of 9 ball, I don't really see how a maker would know what's needed in a cue if they didn't. To let you know his character when I told him I was going to put a thread up on my new cue the only thing he asked me to do was to make sure and let folks know (Andy?) Rounceville had made the blank. :thumbup2:

Sneaky

While Tim Scruggs was a fine cue maker, I think his sneakies are some of the most sought after cues out there.

I have heard that Tim didnt even make them, Frey made the sneakies and Tim did the other cues.

I am not a fan of birdseye or curly shafts, while they are beautiful, I think the straight grain shafts would play better.

Beautiful cue.

Eric was concerned about that too, I shot with it last Friday and we played Sat. of course I let him hit a few (he ran the 1st rack with it) after 1 or 2 balls he said well I guess that worry is put to rest. It's hit (response for lack of a better term) is great. Nothing was lost in the woods figure.

Contact Alex Goeden he does a lot of sales for Eric
plshrk22 is his az user name

Eric has told me he has had trouble with his email, his distributor is the best bet ;)
