Sugartree Tourney Cue

I hope I'm one of the good shirt's. I'm sure some folks don't like me though, but hey, they shouldn't get in trouble;) . I understand about getting out after 9-11. We're still in a deployment heavy time right now. It definitely takes a toll on the family. My wife and I are are both ADAF also. I know exactly what you're talking about.

If you do ever decide to make a road trip to Altus, make sure you let me know. I have a guest bedroom and a pool table at the house and make some great bbq! You believe how much Altus is growing, with the exception of resteraunts of course. The committee of 100 won't allow them to come in. Forrest Ray still owns all of the resteraunts in town.

When were you here last?

Jim

That's the same problem this town is having. Lots of room for growth but they just won't allow it. Blows my mind. I guess folks here like it small. I'll definitely look you up when I come through. I'm always game for good food :) I was there the last time in 2001.

I'm just bumping this thread so I can find it in the morning and buy a few chances. Do we know if mission has a paypal account?

PM sent to you Wes. I think what you & Eric are doing is not only great for pool but also shows what kind of stand up guys you both are. Keep up the great work & have a great tournament. Jeff

Yeah, they are accepting paypal but charging the 3% fee to keep things fair for the locals who paid cash.

I got here in 2003. Still like the area. Be sure to bring one of you're cues for me to buy when you come. I'll trade you a plate of BBQ for one :D ! I'm sure you have that big of a military discount right :) !!

I take care of the guys not too pussy to give a few years of their life to pay for their place in our nation. You betcha. I had a young GI, an army kid, get in touch with me because he was being deployed & wanted to take a cue with him. He wanted a plain coco & birdseye cue. I sent him my playing cue, which was bocote forearm/butt with fire orange cocobolo points & handle, and never charged him. Someday he'll get back in touch with me wanting his plain jane & we'll trade for my old cue back. But if he never does, it'll not hurt my feelings. So yeah, I got a soft spot for our boys & veterans. There's nothing wrong with paying your dues, even when it's not required. And to do so in days like this takes some balls & patriotism. A simple wooden toy is the least I could offer him. I did my time & I remember going out for lunch on several occasions in uniform, and was not allowed to pay a dime for my meal. People took care of us, it's our turn to return the favor.

I sent a pm to mission asking for a paypal address to send
$$$$ for chances on the cue but have not heard anything. I don't want to miss out on making a donation and having a chance on the cue. Can someone let me know where to paypal $$ and how I will get raffle numbers or something?

Wow! That's an awesome gesture. As you know, here in Altus, they support the base very well. I've been in 18 years now and have deployed many times and actually trying to go again in September. When people decide to choose this life, whether it's for 4 years or 30, they always have my respect. A 4 year enlistee who decide to get out has done more for their country than most folks ever will. That's one reason I'm a shirt. To attempt to give more back to our young Airmen.

Thank you for your service and your continued support.

BTW, what was your job while you were in?

I was a firetruck tech, and machinist. It was a heck of a lot of fun but I got stuck with jobs I was never prepared for, like making a truck that had been blown up spray water again. There are very few of us in the military period, so I got to spend a lot of time with all branches & govy ops groups. Got to fly in some very cool helis & shoot some bada$$ guns, too, thanks to the marines :) I miss the job and the people & the comradery, but don't miss the political BS a bit.

I understand what you mean by politics. Our Command Chief expects me to do that stuff, I've dissapointed him several times at that game. People are going to know what I think, that's for sure. Probably hurt my career in the long run, but at least my troops were taken care of.

I've never heard of a fire truck tech. Must be a real small career field. I just assumed Trans took care of them.

You mentioned heli's and reminded me of some Pave Low guys I know. I was a AF Liaison at an Army Hospital for a while. A Pave Low took an RPG. The enlisted guy who sits between the pilots took the brunt of the explosion. He was beat up pretty bad but lived. One heck of a heli.

Gotta love those MH-53 J's, huh??? I worked out of one for a few years...back in the days where I thought being a snake eater was the only way to live.

I'm older, wiser...and much slower these days.......

Yeah, trans is the home squadron of the fire guys. We work in the fire station & work directly with the firemen & are for the large a part of the fire house guys. But trans is who we answer to. Unfortunately or fortunately for me, don't know just yet, any time firetrucks were damaged in combat or on/near the FOB's, there were only a few guys to choose from to send in to do the work, so I got my share of it. Never understood why my old man wouldn't tell me about Vietnam even after I enlisted, he just said, "war is bad, nothing to talk about." After experiencing it myself I found a whole new respect for him, veterans & uniformed troops in general.

Glad to hear you are not one of the dummies on a string :) I like you a lot already!!!! Nothing better than a strong shirt. I bet your troops love you. By the time you are going for cheif, your good deeds now will give you the edge. I wouldn't worry about it. I have never met many cheifs who weren't strong willed & had their share of "misunderstandings" with their chain.

Hey Eric
Just sent Wes some money for the raffle tickets. I also heard from Cindy
that your shooting in the tourny. Good Luck to ya. Don`t run to many racks & give the other guys at least 1 turn at the table. Jeff
