Suggested low-mid level cue

Hey,

So I've been playing pool for a few years now, but I've only started getting serious about this year given the opportunity to play on decent tables at my college. Having invested enough time this year to begin to understand how I like to play, how I like a cue to feel, I figure it's also about time I begin looking for a cue that fulfills the qualities I'm looking for in a cue.

I currently own a Mcdermott lucky cue, but it is beginning to break down. I was wonder what is the best cue to buy for someone who is looking for something in the range of 150-225 dollars.

Some extra info about cue feel, I like a much more natural feel. I've used a cuetec fiberglass, and I hated it. The hit was too stiff, and the fiberglass feels sticky, as my hands sweat easily. I really enjoy the feeling of Mcdermott cues, but was hoping to find something with a little more control, less deflection, and of a higher quality.

Any suggestions?

Mcdermott makes a cue in that price range here in the USA. The one you have is made in China. You can get a Pechauer made in the USA for $225.

Never owned one, but have never heard so many rave reviews on a production cue as the Pechauer. About the same price as a mcd. I imagine. For $400 you can get a low end custom from some makers and would be exactly to your specs.

Please explain

what do you mean when you say your cue is "breaking down?"

$150 to $225 range a Reg McDermott is a good choice or Viking. Foreign cues Lucasi maybe a Fury.

I am not a great pool player or anything, but about 10 years ago I bought a Viking Cue. It has worked great for me but Viking went out of business last year so last week I ordered another Viking cue off of ebay (new) because once current stock is gone that will be it for new viking cues. If you are interested here is the only one the guy I bought from on Ebay has left (well the only one that is like the one I bought, he has other Viking Cues), and it comes with a 2x2 case which is actually a nice sterling case, cheapest I could find this case online was about 45 bucks. $188 total for the case, cue and a bridge head and tip tapper. Shipping was fast and cue was straight as an arrow, I am loving it.

Here is the one I bought from him.

Hmm upon looking at those pictures, I guess he has changed the case he is sending with them, that is not the case that came with mine. Here is a link to the case that came with my cue. Except mine was in black.

Im not sure what brand of case it is that he has pictured with it now, still should be worth it though even with no case, these sticks retailed for $235 I believe.

Edit. You may also want to look through his store, he has lots of Viking cues and other brands as well.

Wow, I did not know this, but read online for sale sign up on their building and toll free number does not work.

This is the sign of the times, cheap chinese cues and the economy.

Yeah it sucks, but like I said its the reason I ordered another one because I think they are great cues and I wanted to get another one before they are all gone.

Bid on a DP cue on ebay, they often go for less than that. They play great and he will set the weight and shaft size/taper to meet your specs. He isn't as chatty as some cue makers, but he certainly makes a players cue and you can't beat the workmanship for that price point. JMPO.
