Suggestions for Murrey

My friend has a Murrey table It's the 4 by 8 California model. It is now time to redo the original cloth. I am looking for suggestions on what might be done to make this table play better. What type of cloth. The corner pockets especialy top right bobble the ball alot while the side pockets seem kinda big. Are there better cushions or pockets that would fit this table? Is any one familar with upgrading a Murrey table. Is it worth it? Or should we just have it recovered and run what they brung?? It has provided us with many a fun match over the past few years!

I know I have worked on Murrey tables. However I can't recall the quality. I'm wanting to say it is a sears table but I am unsure.

If it is a sears quality table it is sometimes best to look around. Putting new cushions, simonis cloth (Upgraded cloth), and better pockets can get pricey. And it may still not play as well as a higher end table.

Do you have pictures of it? If so post some pictures of the table, underneath the table, etc.

Murrey and sons was originally a private company that made tables in Los Angeles. That is were this table came from. Since then I believe the name was bought by Sears. I will take some Pics Tomorrow.

Gentlemen....I was the largest Murrey Distributor in the country.. (Installed & designed 18 billiard rooms with Murrey's)..I probably know Murreys better than anyone as I helped in designing there rails.....Murrey was not bought by Sears..........They were bought by Escalade Sports in the mideast..... At one time they made one hell of a table.........I have sold thousands and have installed the same amount. I know the "Californian" very well.......... I would be happy to talk to anyone concerning this topic..........Go to my web site www.leatherpocket.com and look it over....Call me anytime during business hours.....I'd be glad to help.......PS.If it is a Californian.........it is worth fixing ..........Call me and I will tell you what the problems are with that table....G :) :) :) :)

Will Call

Thanks, I will be getting in touch with you. What's a good time of your day to call? I will do the time conversion. I crawled around under it and it seems to be pretty well made.

Murrey

I feel that if the slates are good and the rails bolt down good you can make any table play pretty good.

I redid a Murrey Pro for a friend of mine and it plays good. I put good rubber on it and extended the rails on it to tighten up the pockets, I set the table up for him so I know it would play good. Now Plynsets has the table in Sad Diego and I think he likes the table alot.

If you have the table coverd by someone who just slaps cloth on the table and gets out of there, there will be a good chance it will play bad. There are alot of things you need to know to really cover rails so that they play right. Also on doing the bed cloth right.

As far as the pockets go, the pocket angles could be cut wrong.

There are alot of people who say they can recover tables but there are very few real table mechanics out there.

Let me know if you need any questions answered, I am in Southern Calif.

Steve

Were the rails bolted through the slates or through the wood liner ?
A friend of mine owned a Color Of Money style commercial table.
It was horrible . The rail had that ugly sound when you banked.
He tried to sell it after spending over 2K for it and could not give it away.
