Suggestions for practice balls

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I'm going to start the Tor Lowry drills. I'm hoping to be pounding out a few thousand stroke drills in relatively short order. The only set of balls I have now are Aramith Pros, and I'd prefer to keep them for gaming only. I'd like to get 2-3 sets of inexpensive balls to be used just for drills like this.

Appreciate any thoughts on brand/vendor. I won't be using these sets for anything other than drilling - and perhaps when the nieces/nephews come over...

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Why aren't the balls you have up to the task?

I'd rather practice with what I'll be using on game day.

Appreciate the feedback. The drills I'm doing are very repetitive stroke drills. No pocketing, position or english. I'm looking at doing a good number of these over the break and having a couple of sets just for this purpose would be helpful to me so I can get into a rhythm of doing 30 at a crack, take a short break, repeat and rinse.

Also - the lesser balls will be something I can use when the kids come over to knock around.

Thanks,
Rick

I’d just use the aramith pros or get another set of them. They’re balls man, they’re meant to be pounded, and your nieces and nephews aren’t gonna pound them any harder than you are.

Practicing thousands of strokes with a lesser quality ball, ie weight or size, will make stroking a real ball feel funny to you.

 on the Aramith you got.

When I buy something, pretty much anything, I bought it to use. And use I do as much as I can.

Remember getting a mountain bike in my college days, all of a sudden I putting in serious mileage daily.

Same thing when I got my first cue. I was playing a lot, but my play time went up dramatically. Price per game on that cue has got to be in the pennies, if not fractions there of.

Don't forget to look at the kicking info By Tor Lowry & Manning Cues (on YouTube).

I think on a home table, the Aramith balls will last longer than you. Don't worry, you are OK.

Think you're right here, Lakeman. Just turned 60 a few days ago. Phenolics typically have a half-life of 1200 years (saw it somewhere on the interwebs, must be true...)

Hear ya there. I prefer to buy once, cry once.

Great point Superiorduper. Saving a couple of shekels just ain't worth it. I'm trying to improve my game and it's tougher the older I get. I need every advantage I can get...

I think the reason he wants a cheaper set of balls is because the drill requires u to use the object balls as a cue ball. And he's worried about the beating the object balls are gonna take (i had the same concern btw) if you're having to hit 3,000 shots. (I think thats what Tor suggests if i remember correctly).

I may be way off though. :-)
