Any opinions on Sumo tips? I think it is a water buffalo tip, single layer. Feels pretty hard. It is for my jump/break cue. I'll have to get my stroke back before I can be sure how good it is.

When I purchased my Sugartree, Eric was using Sumos. They are great BUT you do need to stroke the CB. If you don't stroke you will get some skid and miscues, etc. Even though I didn't experience it, they have been know to have chunks come out.

I actually prefer the SuperPros over the Sumos because of the reasons stated above. They seem to be a little more forgiving on a misshit. You still need to stroke with both though.

You are correct. Thats why I'd never recommend one for a break cue. I've seen plenty who have tried...and they often blow a nice chunk out of the crown & side. Because they are a firmer buffalo hide...this also makes them somewhat brittle. Too many better choices. If you are looking for a leather break tip then you can do no better than a Superpro or Samsara's fine new tip. You will be losing a lot in the jump department though as no leather jumps as well as the many nonleather options like canvas-resin, G10, etc.
 
The sumo's available now, i feel are junk.

Buy the superpro's....they are a layered sumo, don't chip, and are cheap.
