I love pool and have heard people on this and other forums speak about the expo but what I want to know is how much would it cost me altogether to come from Scotland to the expo you know taking into consideration flights, accommodation and entry into the expo. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
 
Flight - no clue
Room - $125ish/night
Entry - $25-$35 the entire weekend
Food - Probably $150ish

If you could get a flight for around $500, you could probably swing the whole thing for under $1400-$1500

Good estimate....if you want to play in the Open event...add another $75. If things go badly, add another $50 for the second chance scramble.
 
If you want to watch the pro event it'll cost roughly $20 a day. I think it's $10 for each session... 2 sessions a day but it goes up a little for the semi-finals & the finals I believe.

Although you will add $75 to play in the Open even, or one of the other events, your player pass gives you entry to the Expo, each day, so you can deduct the amount previously mentioned for that.
 
If I am going to go then I don't want to play in the events I just want to spectate and see what's on offer from the vendors.

Have u been bruce and if so what is it like and would I be able to get autographs from the players without too much trouble.

Hi-scorpion, that's what I went for last year to check out the cuemakers cues! seen them all and hit with some on a table they had set up for that purpous , I have the program from last year if you'd like PM me and i'll send it out to you next week!

There is always a great Pro tournament and it is fairly easy to get players to autograph something. Just don't bother them right before a match or right after a loss. Most are very accomodating.

There are also a number of amateur events and some of the talent playing in those events is equal to the pro players.

The sales area is amazing. It is like a shopping mall dedicated to pool. If there is something you want to see, it will be at Valley Forge.

It is hard to explain what the Expo is like, any better than I have here. You have to attend. You won't be sorry.

Never been to anything Pool Related like BCA Lost Wadges, Hopkin Expo, U.S. Open , etc.

I do not Fly, as I am afraid of Heights. Being 5' 9-1/2" Tall scare me.... :D

But if I was young and adventurious, I would try and get to the Hopkin Expo/Event, as if you are a Cue Lover.

I understand it can not be BEAT as the place to be.

Do not do as I have said so many times in my life. Maybe Next year, that is now 30 years ago. :mad:
 
Save your pennies everyone, I was talking with Allen Hopkins this weekend at the NJ Straight Pool Championship and beginning this coming August (2006) there is going to be a second Expo which will be hosting the 8-Ball Bar Table Championship, open to anyone with a first prize of $25,000.00. Let the action begin!
 
I have been each year for the last few years...it is really great. Just no way to describe it other than a pool players paradise!!!!

Airfare is about $500 (but that's priced with a US origin) from Edinburgh. If you can get a cheapie flight to London, you might be able to do a little better. Fly into Philadelphia.

Rent a car for a week: $220 full-sized, you pay for the gas, you have to drive on the wrong side of the road.

Motels near the venue start at about $70-$80 per night. It's more convenient and more expensive to stay at the Expo hotel. The parking at the Expo hotel is free.

Figure about $25-$30 per day for food, depending on what you're willing to eat.

Entry is probably no more than $40 total, but are you sure you aren't covering the Expo for a UK pool newspaper?

So, if you stay five nights, which gives you time to see Valley Forge, where George Washington wintered his troops prior to kicking some Red-coat butt, and the slightly damaged Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, the total comes to: $500(air) +220(car) +20(gas)+ 400(room) + 150(food) + 40(entry) = $1330 (1100 Euros, roughly)

If you find a travelling companion, reduce that by 25% for the shared costs including car and room.
