Super Long Bridge

Does everyone use a super-long bridge these days?

If you're struggling with your accuracy, speed control, etc.....shorten your bridge up. You might like the results!

For a while I kept my bridge 8-10 inches from the cueball. I developed my stroke to suit this length.

A good friend and tourney runnin buddy of mine showed me how accurate I can be on the cueball with a 4-6 inch bridge. The adjustment was hard casue I felt so close to the CB.....but now im shooting a ball or two better.....To each his own I reckon

My bridge length varies.

I tend to use a longer bridge for long range shots (where I also get down lower over the cue, and use an open bridge). But I also find that a longer bridge can be useful in some short range shots when I want to increase the distance the white travels after contact while keeping the stroke smooth.

Otherwise, I agree that a shorter bridge can help control, especially if you are putting unintentional english on the c.b.

IMHO a key to using a long bridge successfully is to make sure that your back hand control is good.

My ball pocketing increases tremendously when I shorten up the bridge (which shortens up my backswing). A pause helps too. If I find myself struggling (which is most days due to lack of play) I can usually attribute it to a long, closed bridge.

It was once said the filipinos use a long bridge as much for sighting the CB as they do for enabling that fluid stroke. With a closed bridge, the hand can block view of the CB...especially with a short bridge. This is why I am more comfortable with an open bridge...and I don't feel the ability to move the CB is lessened.

I had a very long bridge length - and still do to some degree. I've managed to shorted it about 2" -- which was a big adjustment. Now that I air-pivot when aiming, the long bridge isn't as crucial. I'm going to continue to shorten it, little by little, until I'm about 7-8". I'm not sure if I need to be inside of that.

Im glad you mentioned the Pause.....

My friend introduced it to me bout 3-4 months ago.....It has indeed helped LOADS to my game as well........I notice most champions has the like a second long pause......some more and some less

Using low squirt cues I think it makes a lot of sense to use long bridges 16-20 inches on most shots.
