I was just reading an old Billiards Digest and there was an article about a guy named Bruce Christopher (aka Superstroke). The article said he was a great player and was in the Guiness Book of World Records for running 5,688 balls in a 24 hour period. It says he quit playing pool and found religion later. Was this guy a real player? I have never heard of him other than this article.

NOOOOOOO!! He was the biggest pool imposter of all time. Actually made it to a TV match with Fats. Couldn't make a ball unless it was hanging, and challenged the world to play for a $1,000,000.

Also his sideline was scam artist. Naturally.

James "SUPERSTROKE" Christopher could REALLY play.

IMHO Bruce was/is more sizzle than steak.

I think Bruce may have been about an APA 5. I met him at the 1976 World 14.1 Championships (in Asbury Park, NJ). Seemed like a nice enough guy in person. I think he had an appearance in Playgirl or similar magazine about then. He also had a small booklet about himself as a pool hustler. Fairly recently -- within the last five years? -- I think his "million dollar challenge" has appeared in some of the pool mags.
 
Neil...Nobody took him up on it for a long time. Naturally, since you had to POST a million bucks. When someone finally did call his bluff, he up'd the ante to $1.5 million and that was the end of it. People knew he was just a scam artist and wouldn't really play for that kind of money.

LOL...thanks for all the clerifications. I didnt think this guy was a real player. I would have liked to have seen him woof at Earl in those days about playing for large $$$$.

Someone DID take him up on the offer.He lost badly,got smoked.In fact it was embarrassing.
The guy that won is still getting what the agreement was....$19.23/week for the next 1,000 years.

The guy later changed his name to Deno and his backer was some guy that went by the name K.T. or something like that.:eek: :D
