I think he posted more so on the fact that most of the balls ended up on the opposite side of the table rather than the specific layout. If so then yeah it was a pretty powerful break and would go with his point that he breaks fine w/ his playing cue. Or maybe i interpreted that completly wrong :)

Yeah I definitely wasn't bragging about it. I'm just saying that a strong break isn't everything. If you hit them hard enough, you end up sending the middle of the rack down table, and the corners go flying 7 rails to "who knows where." Essentially you end up with a bunch of clusters at the bottom end of the table. Now why would I get something that's gonna help me break harder?? And with a phenolic tip, my cb goes flying across the room on a regular basis.

I just think break cues are overrated. I've seen people break softer than they shoot. And they still have to go buy a cue specifically for breaking...WTF FOR?!?!? The only reason I can see for a break cue is to protect your playing cue. Just in case you're like me and have a tendency to crack shafts and ferrules. But if that's the case...Why spend $300 on one?

I dunno .. call me old fashioned or a purist or... well.. or broke
I think that you play pool with one cue...not one for breaking, one for jumping and one for playing.... I carry a cue case not a golf bag onto the pool hall...
That being said , I have hit with a few different j/bs /break cues .. and for the money the cheap j&j that chrisonline sells here are awesome...awesome and cheap..

You mean you don't bring your golf bag??? What about your jump stick, break stick, bridge stick, extra shaft, extra butt, extra break shaft, broomstick, and 9 Iron??? Surely they don't fit in your pocket.

My .02

I really like my Burl Sledgehammer but my custom Edwin Reyes J/B is the nuts. Matches my ER playing cue w/ Sea Snake skin wrap. Beautiful, functional cues. JMHO
I am sure the others play just fine.
Peace, Purdman

Where are all the comments about the BK2 considering it is winning the poll? I have a X-Breaker v2 and it works very well. It jumps amazing... are one of the other cues 'better', I have no idea.

One should also consider that with the Varney and the others, you have the option of jumping balls. The Predator does not break down into a jump cue.

I have to disagree, I think the Omen jump break is the most "playable", hell, Larry Nevel used to use one as his playing cue...

My OMEN Grey Ghost J/B is a MONSTER to break with and jumping balls is a hanger. I dont know anything about the Varney cue but it seems to get great reveiws. The Mass Produced models you can keep or donate to the Boy Scouts as firewood....

Have heard many glowing comments about the Andy Gilbert JB. He's sold a bunch of them and many use it as their primary player cue also. I would like to try one but haven't had the chance yet. Since they normally have a hard leather tip rather than one piece phenolic ferrule/tip I doubt you would call the Gilbert JB the "best" jumper.

Varney, what type of tip-ferrule combo do you typically install??

I have owned a Sledgehammer, X-breaker, Stinger,and now a Predator BK2.
I prefer the BK2 because I have much better CB control. With the others, I too often lost control of Whitey, sometimes off of the table. Yeah I know, if my stroke was perfect that would not happen, well it's not, I prefer the BK2.

I am sure that the Varney is sweet, and it would be nice to be able to jump with my Break cue but I am happy with the Predator. Does the trick for me and the tips feels just too, not a fan of the super hard phenolic tip.

How about adding the Omen to your voting list - it may do better then you expect.

I have also used an Omen Grey Ghost and it is a great J/B cue. It should have been included in the choices.
As it is, I voted for the Sledgehammer, however, I own an older Sledgehammer and not one of the newer, mass produced, models. So my vote is based on the Sledgehammer I own and not on the models you can buy today.

I went from a Stinger to a Varney also.... I really didn't care for the taper of the Stinger. It sure did the job though. I am sure you will be very pleased with your Varney. I am awaiting the arrival of my second one.

I have heard many good things about all of the cues listed, as well as some not listed in the poll. With everything everyone has to say about all of the cues, I sure would have a tough time deciding which one to buy. It sounds as if each person that posted, is happy with their choice. It's also very interesting to read everyone's thoughts on a particular cue.

when starting this survey I thought that the x breaker was going to be a favorite by far because of what ive heard about it, could what i heard be all hype? or is the x breaker really one of the best. i really like my friends sledgehammer, theres a custom sledgehammer that i really like, will the custom sledgehammer hit the same as the other sledgehammers?

I was thinking the same thing. This time last year it was x-breaker this and x-breaker that.

I went with a stinger when I decided to buy a break cue. I haven't learned to jump yet, but it sure does a nice job breaking.

My vote is for Varney!

I've owned or tried almost all the b/j cues out there. While all had their strong and weak points, my favorite is my brand new Varney! I have much more control on the break and it jumps with little effort. It also feels alot more solid than the other cues I've had. I would strongly recommend buying a Varney if you get the chance. Mr. Varney is also very nice to talk to on the phone and does outstanding work and repairs. Thanks Kevin!!

My BK2 just seems to hit solid on EVERY breaks, my CB control has doubled................I get more power than with the stinger, sledge, xbreaker, and more control.
