I have been reading about DO being guilty for not speaking out. What about SVB? He recieved $10k which he eventually returned as appearance fee. Is he also guilty for not speaking out? discuss.

The criticism of Dennis was originally because of non-disclosure on the the Ko match prize fund amount, which actualy took place, not the Shane match which was canceled. The criticism stemmed from allegations by John French, which are not substantiated at this time. My understanding that the 10K was not an appearance fee. It was good faith money that the match would take place. (Personally I don't think he was obligated to return the money since the match was canceled through no fault on his side).

But that doesn't matter. Shane has the best break in the world, so we cut him a ton of slack anyway.

Doesn't stop a guy from trying to start shit needlessly though.
Discuss......... :)

I don't see where it's anyone's business but theirs. What I find amusing about this forum is you have so may people here indignant about gambling, saying its always been the ruination of this game & yet they are all interested in purchasing these gambling match streams and feel they have a right to full disclosure about every financial detail of these matches like these players & stakehorses are running for some kind of public office.

Edit: when you gamble to you like everyone to know what the stakes are & the game you negotiated? Is that really anyone's business besides you, your opponent & respective backers?

There will be those that say they have a right to knowledge of that if they are paying for a stream advertised as a $100,000 match. Perhaps that's true, perhaps the streams should just be advertised as a monied grudge match leaving the amount to the persons involved. The reality is there is enough competitiveness between DO & SVB that anyone remotely aware of this sport knows that neither of them want to lose to the other, especially DO. Shane is so deep in his head now he can't stand it and SVB is enjoying his digs in DO's head & wants to keep that edge, neither want to lose, even an exhibition match. That's always going to lead to good pool worth watching no matter the stakes.

If your selling a product, regardless of whether or not the stream is for exhibition or grudge match, be honest about the product your selling.

My opinion is that the match was cancelled because of a con artists that was willing to take advantage of everyone he could. I don't put SVB in that category.

Pool had always been dirt-bags, cutthroats, dumpers, stiff artists, hustlers and convicts. All of it, from movies to tournaments and heads-up action has been honestly portrayed in unfavorable light. As time goes by, nothing changes from the promoters on down to the fans.
There are a few of the pros that maintain a clean image, but you can count them on the fingers of one hand and not need all your fingers.

Well, I found you twice in one day.

This is true for absolutely everything in life. It doesn't matter if it's business, family, ect... It's all the same dirt-bags, cut-throats, dumpers, stiff artists, hustlers and convicts. I'm annoyed that this bull shit is mostly being directed at pool players. It's like every time I walk into my local room I'm probably going to be surrounded by thieves and murderers.

I'd say 95% of the people that I've met through the years were really good people who respected each other at the very worst. The problem with the state of pool is not pool's image... people who do not watch pool are probably just as excited to watch a curling match. You can only watch Trick Shot magic so many times on ESPN before every year becomes a re-run.

As far as the players of past and present are concerned, you would be hard pressed to get some of these good guys and gals to fit on your fingers and toes.

Anyone here a football fan? When was the last time someone in the NFL was accused of committing a crime? Drugs, domestic violence, child abuse, gambling, murder? That's dirty on a national platform.

I am beyond caring about the SVB\DO match now.

Me too. Shane was so dominant in their last match up (race to 100) I have zero desire to see it again.
Dennis was beaten so badly they should have just cancelled the last day. Why anyone thinks this match should happen again at all is beyond me.

Agreed. I would be happy watching Alex come from behind again.

I'm not 100% sure how to take your post - sarcasm or not. I think I get it though. So, no disrespect but I am led to believe either possibly you are very naive when it comes to pool players or are just the eternal optimist. What you said about thode type people being in all walks of life is absolutely true , but what is also true is you will find them in MUCH MUCH higher concentration in any given pool room. Ask anyone that's been around for awhile, it's just the way it is.

I'm not even saying there is anything wrong with that . In fact I am friends with a lot of them from the pool halls. But I'd do know what I'm getting into upfront, and that's fair enough. Like people always say, some of the most colorful, characters youre ever gonna meet anywhere ever. Many are good guys as far as loyalty as a friend. Many are good to know for different reasons. For the record I'm not one of those saying that pool having a bad image is the reason for not succeeding on a grand scale either. I believe the bad boy / underworld / counter culture is and always has been a huge part of the draw.

i thought the same but after hearing french story if true Shane knew nothing about Dennis not having the money and trying to play and deceive viewers
according to french svb was coming in with mars with the full 50k to gamble

whether that true i dont know
would like clarification from him though but doubt he will talk about it publicly.

Drama on every forum. This one is no better or worse than any other I am on.
