SVB looking away from shot

I recall seeing some short video of SVB showing of during practise and looking away from each shot while delivering the stroke. Can't seem to find the video now though. Is there someone that can provide a link to it?

That isn't really showing off. It's a good thing to practice. If you can't deliver a straight stroke with your eyes at least closed, you should work on your mechanics.

I saw one of SVB running a game of 8 ball in a crowded bar.
ALL No look shots.
It was on the fb, never could find it again.

it's possible you could be referring to the look away and then back again just before he breaks. Billy and few other players mentioned it during the WP masters event a few years ago and I've also heard about it on a few other streams with JJ. Not sure, but, I think it's like an oddity or tick he probably doesn't even realize he does from time to time, however, I have seen him do it quite often...

Eddie Taylor used to do that in exhibitions. He demonstrates it here, from about 32:10 to 33:30.

That was a very impressive demonstration.

Years ago, a local shortstop demonstrated to me a sequence that tops even the look-away. He would:

1) Line up a table-length cut shot with an open bridge.
2) Look away and
3) Close his eyes (to ensure there was no peripheral vision stuff going on)
4) Remove his cue from his bridge and wave it off to the side
5) Return his cue to his bridge
6) Sink the ball, center of the pocket

I'm still not sure I could do a look-away shot. I will try this evening and see how it goes.

Irving Crane used to do the "remove the stick from the bridge hand while looking away" shot with a spot shot. I'm sure there are lots of world champions who would fail miserably at this kind of shot. It kind of ensures that your stance is solid but there are better things to practice first.

I seem to remember seeing Crane do that as well, very impressive!

I vaguely recall he was showing off for a woman he was dating. So maybe it disappeared into the abyss of a post-relationship purge?

I remember Alex doing a look away playing Butamonte in a match, he missed the ball , but left it tough , then Busti missed , I think it took quite a few shots to end the game .

The Ko brothers have a running series on IG where they try gag shots with other pros, including this shot.

You can see KPY and Fedor try it here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvZpqW7BaQp
