SVB playing in small tournament in Orlando?

I saw a friend of mine in a local tournament last night. He's a solid player and is a favorite to win most tournaments he plays in.

We started talking, says he's been playing good and that he's won 4 tournaments within the past week.

He then tells me that he played the #1 rated pro player and beats him.
Jokingly i reply "Do you mean SVB?"
He says "Yeah Shane, oh you've heard of him?"
Of course I've heard of him!!!

So he goes on to tell me that he played a tournament at Fastbreak Billiards and that SVB was there. They weren't going to let him play- obviously cause he's a pro- but they decided to let him play. Only on the condition that SVB was spotting 4, 5, or 6 balls. Oh yeah the game is 9-ball.

So my friend ends up playing him in the finals, only needs to make the 5-ball to win a game, and ends up winning the tournament.

I was just wondering why a player of his caliber would be playing in a local $7 tournament? Seems kind of strange.

If your friend offers to sell you a bridge I would reccomend not buying it if I were you.

Funny story all the same.

I'm pretty certain

I think SVB was in Valley Forge, PA most of this past week. He was playing in the million dollar shootout.

LOL!!!
He doesn't seem like the type of person that would make something up like that.
He has a good reputation. Have no reason not to believe him.

Johnny Archer used to play in the weekly tournament in Raliegh from time to time. he also would play the locals giving up some serious weight for a couple hundred dollar sets...It was always amazing to watch him beat those guys who thought they had a chance...lol!!

Hi,

He was there last week before the Jax tourney. He knows someone in Orlando and stopped by for a few days and decided to go play in the tourney. The handicap is very fair for all players and we welcome anyone to come play. Last 4, 5 or 6 and the breaks is a common spot for the better players to give and its not hard to win if you are really trying to.

Just because you play good, doesn't mean you can enjoy yourself and have a fun night out playing pool. I play most of the local tourneys, not to win money, but more to keep up on my game a little, and most importantly, to go see friends.

Hey Waz

There is your answer.

Shane just likes to play pool. It's no surprise that he played in the local weekly tournament while visiting. When he visits Fort Collins he does the same thing playing in an $8 tournament on Sundays. And we love having him.

It's nice that a pro takes the time to play with people at local venues. SVB is a class act. I hope he visits my area some time, I would love to see him play. I might even rack for him. lol As if...

Your friend has some nice memories to share with his kids and grandkids...

Why is a guy that has won 4 tournaments that week playing in a 7$ tournament? Either he likes money or just likes to play. Probably both.

The $10 tournament down here at Bankshots is no pushover, we have had some stiff competition and welcome world beaters if they want to play. It's a chance to play great players for very little money, why do people look at it so negatively when the top players play?

It's a chance to play someone you normally don't get a chance to, I would jump at the chance not ***** about it.

LOL!
I would love to play more tournaments, but unfortunately I work week nights and play 9-ball league on Saturday nights.

I told my captain I wanted to take off the next session so I cold participate in that tournament.
He was a little upset at first, but then later on told me I could come every other week.

APA league is cool and all, but honestly there's only a hand full of good players on my division.
I'm relatively new to pool, only been playing 5 years, so I know if i want to improve I need to play more tournaments.

That's what's wrong with the computer age we live in nowadays. Text messages and on-line forums are just words on a screen.

Often times the meaning can be misconstrued.
I wasn't looking down upon this or ***** about it, just wanted to share my story and receive some input from my fellow pool/billiards enthusiasts.
