Haven't seen it yet, because I am off to a tournament myself, but will definitely look at it later!

Nice to see my favourite Filipino, "one-tooth" Lolong, beating some Americans :D

I said Hi to Lolong for you. Stevie wanted another set for 50T and Lolong wanted me to be his manager. I declined. Even with 8-9 handicap, Lolong will be hard-pressed to win.

It was then that Jherome Pena who matched up with Stevie and lossed.

It was nice to watch this. I just finished and have to say, Corteza can flat play. His stroke is unique from other Pinoy's. It almost looks like sort of "push stroke", similiar to maybe Hopkins. I agree with Watchez, DON"T F WITH THE PINOYS!!

How much U.S. dollars were they betting?

From what I've read here from Jay and others who were there, SVB's matches were
between 100,000 to 250,000 pesos, that's $2100 up to $5250, definitely no chump change...

If I get it right, the match with Lee Van was for 100,000 pesos and the Warren Kiamco match was for 150,000. I also spoke to Carlo Biado and he said he played SVB for 70,000.

You're probably talking about the shot to the 9 going to the 10 in the first video, Lee Vann went the "other"
pocket to get perfect position on the 10. I don't think he intentionally did that, he came up short on his CB
position on the 9 and has to improvise, it happens a lot in Rotation, were you have to avoid running into the
other 14 balls JB...

Yes that's the shot. But I have noticed that when Filipinos get "out of line" like that they don't seem to be bothered by it, they just go the other way.

I have seen this plenty of times watching other Filipinos playing. You are surely right that it comes from playing Rotation.

I wish that more Americans would take up that game as it's way way way better than nine or ten ball. And it obviously breeds a different kind of player.

The guy with the cap is Roberto "Bert Pasay" Dy, the lefty he's playing was Fidel "Tony Bukbok" Punzalan.
It's good to hear you enjoyed your R&R while doing some "business" on the side in the Philippines!

Bert Pasay has a beautiful stroke, he is a joy to watch. So smooth. He is a very nice guy also, always smiling. If I am not wrong he is a third tier player in PI.. Scary.

On rack 15 (Part 09) with SVB ahead 8 to 6, Lee Van showed how precise his position play (CB) can be.

Lolo!!!

The most deceiving player in the world hands down. LOL. For those who havent seen him, imagine a mixture of Mike Davis, Allen Hopkins, and Morro Paez stroking and jumping on every shot. All with 3 teeth. Absolutely incredible he can run 2 balls that way, and plays good. A really cool guy also.

The only thing I don't like about Van-Van's pool demeanor is when he's in a bind, or he's snookered good,
he tends to leave it to the pool gods when he's kicking. He's been like that since I first saw him 10-12 years
ago, not unlike his idol Efren or even Busti, they always try to analize all possible angles and almost always
plays the correct shot, and it's usually is to try to pocket the intended ball with a counter-safety if it fails.

... but it's always easier said than done! lol

You are right, his style is not something anyone should try to copy. The mix of a very unique playing style and his cool behaviour makes it hard to turn down a game. He is always in action, while other players can go "dry" for days and weeks.

Lets not hope that we ruin his action by outing him here.

He's a World Class Star now already because of you guys.

=D

Have you never heard of Lolong??? ;)

I guess you have heard of Jharome Pena, he finished 17th in the World Championship 2006, beating Steve Davis on the tv-table. Jharome is 2nd tier in the Philippines, but is likely to win any major tournament. (And I kid you not, as AnitoKid would say).

If I am not mistaken Jharome gave Stevie handicap.

Leevan is strong, its amazing how much talent there is in the pillipines ,like ive never heard of corteza and hes good enough to match up to SVB and beat him...crazy.

You have to be very careful how you choose your games in the Philipines even more so than America. Lots of great players people have never heard of.

It is possible to make very good money here because everybody wants to play. For me if Shane wants to play the likes of Corteza he should play 8 ball which is more his game than Lee's.

Pena, Jeff De Luna, Gandy Valle are all good games for Shane and they would all play. The A players are 50 50 for him at best, and in their own back yard Shane is second favourite. In America different story.,

That's the biggest difference between the Philippines and the USA, a lot of Filipino players are willing to gamble with Shane EVEN.

Ehem... because of the Rotation background, 8-ball is probably the easiest option for the Pinoys (after Rotation itself naturally). Just look at the results in IPT or 8-Ball WCs.. (you can find Shane from there also and compare it to many Pinoys..)

I watched the second half of that match (I'm sitting there with Bunny) and Lee Van just took over and beat Shane something like 25-13. It was a big bet, maybe 200,000p. And Shane lost to Warren right after on the same table. Also for some serious cheese.

By the way, Lee Van is FIRST Tier in the PI, the highest ranking. He ocasionally comes to the USA, and I think he won a big tourney at Turning Stone last year.

Shane did much better last year, prior to the WPC in November. I was in with him when he won several matches for bets ranging from 20,000p to 100,000p (against De Luna at Bugsy's Lair). That's when they realized he was first tier speed as well. His range of opponents narrowed to about seven or eight guys. If Shane's Ten Ball break is working, he can beat anyone, anywhere at any time. He hasn't reached his peak as a pool player yet. He will win many more major titles before he's through.

One reason Shane is so popular here, is that Shane is not only a tournament champion, he will step up and bet high too. Johnny was like that when he first came to the PI in the early 90's. I've been told that Johnny and Rodney both have winning records gambling over here, the only two Americans who have been able to do this. And they were playing the top players then too.
