SVB's Stroke

So i just watched a match between SVB and Alex and I noticed that Shane has a slight hitch at the beginning of his final stroke where he raises his elbow. It's very interesting to me because for a long time I did the exact same thing and felt that it got much more action on the cueball. I don't do it anymore because I worked it out of my stroke thinking it was a bad mechanic.

I know I could very easily work it back into my stroke but my question is should I and is there a reason for it?

If u worked it out of ur stroke because it was a problem then just leave it be..

Well that's the thing... It wasnt causing me issues but I had people tell me it was the wrong thing to do so I worked it out.

First off dont let anyone tell you what ur doing is wrong if its not affecting ur game...look at shane or busty even efren...all unorthodox in some way..but all amazing players...lastly..if u want to put it back in ur game then do it...just make sure ur not doin it for the wrong reasons....immitation is the besr form of flattery but in pool it dont mean a thing unless you can immitate what they do ON the table

He stared that laoding up hitch a while back, I dont like it at all. I think he needs to get back to basics, its no good. I was just talking to a top player about that, he dont like it either. I'm sure SVB will be fine tho.

I remember a commentator mention this about Shane on i think a TAR match, maybe the last match up with Alex. Looks like his elbow sorta moves to the left on his back stroke before delivering the cue. JMO this is a bad habit to have:D

Svb stroke

I have noticed this for a couple of years.
I have mentioned it a couple of times on TAR matches.

I think it is a bad thing.

But SVB practices so much that this little hitch should not have much affect on his game.

If he gets short on practice then it could get in the way.

The kid beats everyone he plays except one of the best of all time BUSTY.

His stroke seems t be just fine. Give me that hitch and let me play like that,

simply put I think it's just another variable that you don't need If you can hit them just as well and still keep it simple, that's your best bet. When you have a day where your stroke isn't working well it will be easier for you to figure out why if you have less to analyze. I personally don't like Shane's stroke at all but it is clearly effective for him.

I think it's a bit of a natural reposition. He aims low so when he draws back for the final stroke, his elbow slightly raises to help his follow through on the ball. if he lined up and didn't do that. his stroke would be short and he would mishit balls. JMO of course. it may not be fundamentally correct to some people, but it seems necessary for body mechanics. The fact that his stroke is so slow and deliberate probably makes it more noticeable than other players like busti.

It may not be what everyone would consider a good pool stroke, but it works very well for him. The talent and dedication overcome what others consider a flaw.

**look at Phillip Rivers in the NFL..

Now that YouTube has finally released my video from copyright Hell ...

Shane's stroke

Sorry for the moving camera, I was right next to the table and we were all chatting so it was hard to keep him in frame.
